I gawk at her.

"What? J-Jackson's father is here?" I stutter

She nods.

"Why does he want to see me?" I ask

"I'm not sure but we have to go, Mr.Kref is even more impatient than Jackson" She says

I reluctantly nod.

"O-okay" I say

I hide the phone she gave me under my pillow, straighten up my outfit and follow her out fo the room.

On my way, I can't help but feel nervous.

I always noticed that whenever Jackson's father was brought up, he would start acting differently. I'm sure that's not a good sign.

Plus why would he even want to see me?

Once we arrive outside of Jackson's office, Maria turns to face me.

"Listen to me, Marianna, Mr.Kref is very different from Jackson. He's way worse. " She remarks

My eyebrows slightly furrow.

"Just...don't make any direct eye contact, he sees it as if you're challenging his position"

I nod.

"And only speak when spoken to. He hates being interrupted" She says

Just like Jackson.

"Okay" I say

She slightly smiles.

"Don't worry, everything will be fine."

I didn't believe her.

But I returned the gesture anyway.

"Now hurry. They're waiting" She ushers me toward the door

Once she leaves, I take a deep breath before knocking on the door.

"Come in" I hear Jackson call from the other side.

I slowly twist the knob open and step in. When I do, I quickly close the door behind me before turning to face them.

"I apologize for my tardiness" I say, avoiding both their eyes

"Marianna" I hear Jackson say

I look up and meet his eyes.

He seemed...

distraught?

No distraught wouldn't be the word. Uneasy. Yeah, uneasy.

He was leaning against his desk, his hands balled into fists by his sides.

"This is my father" He says gesturing to the man who was now sitting in Jackson's seat, his feet comfortably placed on Jackson's table.
