Chapter 4
Lesley's POV

"You guys can eat in the living room if you'd like," Mrs. Johnson said while handing us our plates. I walked and opened the cabinet to get Luke and I a cup. I filled them up with ice and sat Luke's cup on the counter.

"What do you want to drink?" I asked.

"What do you have?" he asked back.

"Coke, Dr. Pepper, and Lemonade," I said smiling at him.

"I'll take Lemonade, please?" he said smiling back. I took the bottle out of the fridge and poured it into our cups. We walked back into the living room and sat down in the floor. I started to pick up a french fry when I heard Mrs. Johnson clear her throat.

"You didn't pray," she said crossing her arms. I rolled my eyes and looked down.

"God, thank you for this food. Bless the hands that made it. In Jesus name, amen," I said sighing.

"Amen. Now you may eat," Mrs. Johnson said walking back into the kitchen.

"Okay?" Luke said laughing.

"Shes really religious. She gets mad all the time if I don't pray over the food," I said back. Luke nodded and smirked. We ate, and continued with our game. We talked about random stuff, laughed at our corny jokes, and got to know each other. Before we knew it, it was 11:00.

"God, it's already eleven," I said looking at the clock.

"It doesn't feel like it," Luke said back.

"Lesley, can I ask you a question?" he asked after a moment of silence.

"Yeah," I said smiling.

He hesitated, "Why do you cut yourself?" I frowned, and looked at my hands. "You don't have to answer if you don't want to," he said sadly.

"No, it's fine. Uh... my mom died when I was eleven. She was hit by a drunk driver and was killed instantly. And my dad was abusive to both of us, but when she died he went crazy and almost killed me one night. Plus, Dallas cheated on me with one of my closest friends, and he won't leave me alone. So, I guess cutting... cutting is my only escape from all the madness in my life. It's not really an escape but... you know," I said as a single tear went down my cheek.

"Awe, love," Luke said coming to sit beside me. He wrapped his arms around me and I snuggled into his chest. "I'm so sorry," he whispered.

"It's okay," I whispered back.

Luke's POV

We sat there in each others arms talking about random things. My phone buzzed and I picked it up. I smiled with joy and answered it.

"Hello?"

"Luke!!! How's America, mate?" Calum's voice beamed.

"It's great. Really beautiful here," I said back. Lesley stood up and grabbed her bag. She looked at me and I pouted. She giggled and walked toward the bathroom.

"Met any chicks?" Cal asked laughing.

"Yes, actually I did," I said laughing as well.

"Good for you, mate!! Is she hot?" he asked.

"She's absolutely beautiful," I said smiling.

"Describe her," he demanded.

"God you're nosey," I said chuckling, "I'm actually with her right now."

"OOHHH LUKEY'S GETTIN' SOME TONIGHT!!!" Cal sang. I laughed loudly and shook my head.

"No, she's my neighbor," I said back. Lesley came out of the bathroom in a white tank top and pink shorts. I bit my lip and I stared at her.
"Mate, I got to go. I'll talk to you tomorrow," I said about to hang up.

"Awe, alright. Send me a picture of her!!" he said back.

"Okay, bye!!" I said hanging up.

"Who was that?" Lesley asked.

"Oh, that was my friend from Australia," I said back. She nodded and I stood up to go change.

I took my clothes off and slipped on a black muscle shirt and a pair of ball shorts.

I brushed my teeth and walked back to the living room. Lesley was laying on the couch but moved her feet so I could sit. She looked at me and smiled.

"What?"

"Nothing," she said back, giggling.

"Really, what?"

"You think I'm beautiful?" she asked. I blushed.

"You heard that, huh? Yeah, I think you're beautiful," I said smiling. She blushed and raised up.

"I think you're pretty hot yourself," she whispered, inches away from my face.

"Really?" I whispered back.

"Mmhm."

I closed my eyes and leaned in to her face. I soon felt her soft lips on mine, our lips in sync. I put my hands on her waist while she wrapped her arms around my neck.

We made out for what felt like hours when Lesley put her hand on my chest. She pulled away and sighed.

"Is something wrong?" I asked, worry on my face.

"No, it's just um... I'm tired. I'm going to go to sleep," she said grabbing her phone off the table. I watched her walk into the other room and she shut the door.

I didn't understand. Did I do something wrong? Was I a bad kisser? Did I stink? I sat there in confusion.

"Luke," I heard from behind me.

"Yeah?" I said turning to face her.

"It's nothing to do with you. It's just I'm not ready for this. After what happened with me and Dallas, I haven't really trusted anyone. I hope you understand," she said looking at her feet.

"It's okay, I totally understand," I said smiling at her. She smiled back and nodded.

"Night, Luke," she said turning around to go back into the TV room.

"Goodnight, love," I said smiling. I turned the lamp off and laid down. I turned my alarm on my phone on and slipped under the blanket.
