DEEP DARK AND DANGEROUS

CHAPTER 21

RYAN P.O.V

“Ready?” Jared asked as we headed out the door. He was dropping me off at home because we had school tomorrow and I still hadn’t done my homework and I knew my mom would be mad.

“Yup.” I said grabbing my bag and placing it over my shoulder before waving to his mom. The ride was mostly quiet. We were woken up by Jared’s mom and her new boyfriend. He treated her right and I think I loved him for that. All she needed was someone who cared about her and she finally found it. “I like him.” I said smiling at Jared.

“I know me too. She deserves him.” He said looking at me. “Every girl deserves someone who loves her.” He looked back at the road. I couldn’t help the smile on my face that got even bigger. When we pulled up outside my house there were ambulances, firetrucks and police cars everywhere. I got out leaving my bag in the car and running into the house where I ran into a police officers arms.

“You can’t be in here!” He shouted.

“This is my house!” I shouted back panicked. Jared was right behind me before I saw my mother being brought towards the door on a stretcher. “What happened?” She was unconscious it seemed as if she was dead.

“She overdosed.” My eyes went wide. She knew better than to put her babies life at stake.

“She’s pregnant…” I said trailing off.

“Are you riding with her?” One of the men asked. I nodded my head.

“I’ll call you later. I’m sorry!” I shouted to Jared before I shoved him towards his car before climbing into the back of the ambulance. He kept trying to call me but I never answered. “Are the babies going to be okay?” I asked as the man in the back tried everything he could to wake her up.

“I’m not sure.” Tears brimmed in my eyes. Although I knew I would taking care of the babies most of the time I didn’t want to lose them or my mother. I stayed quiet doing my best to stay out of the way. Once we were there many doctors were around rushing her into a room. I followed for as long as I could before they made me wait in the waiting room. I was the only one here, none of my other family were there. I was in this alone.

“I’m worried.” I paced back and forth in the kitchen.

“Did you call her?” I stopped and looked at my mother. I called, texted, left messages, no answer. My phone suddenly began to ring, it was her.

“Are you okay?” I asked standing as still as possible. I grabbed my keys because I knew she was going to need me.

“No.” She cried into the phone and I was out the door before she got another word out. “I’m all alone. No one else is here and I’m scared.” She said.

“Where are you?” I asked.

“Holy Family.” She answered. “They haven’t told me anything.” She cried more. I was praying for the best but I knew we might not be getting that. We weren’t exactly sure as to why she took so many pills but I never wanted Ryan to see that. I stayed on the phone with her the whole ride there. I weaved in and out of traffic afraid I was going to crash this rental car. I knew my mother would flip her lid. When I got there I barely got the car in park before getting out and running in.
