My first day of class was today and I was somewhat excited about it. Of course I've toured this college plenty of times before and I've seen every single classroom that the 4 hour time limits would allow me to, but this is the real deal. I'm actually going to start taking my first college course.
Before I walked out of the door, I checked to see if I had everything I needed; my backpack with all of my supplies, my laptop, my phone, my room key, and my car keys. I looked at the clock one last time. I was 45 minutes early to class (nerdy, I know). I had enough time to go get coffee and a muffin from the cafe and still get to class 30 minutes early and find a good seat.
As I was walking downstairs and out of the front door, I saw Jazmyne walking to the direction of the student parking lot, but something was off about her.
Her posture was more slumped than usual and she kept wiping her eyes to keep herself awake. I could see the bags under her eyes from here. What happened to her last night?
"Jazmyne!" I yelled out to her as I was trying to catch up with her.
When she saw me she tried her best to sober up. "Wassup Mel! I should've known you would be the early bird who catches the worm." She chuckled as she joked, trying to distract me from her tiredness.
"Yeah, getting an early start." I tried to play along but I couldn't help it any longer, "You look like you haven't slept in ages Jaz."
"Ouch." She giggled, "I guess I did have a rough night last night."
She forced herself to keep a smile on her face but I could see right through it.
"Party?" I asked.
She lightly scoffed, "I wish."
She said that in a slightly more serious tone but still tried to fake it.
"Come to the cafe with me," I suggested, "Maybe you won't feel as dead."
Her fake smile wiped away and she looked at the ground. She looked back up to me with a sincere smile, "Sure."

It wasn't long until she fell asleep in my car. I decided to just let her sleep and go inside to get her favorite coffee and muffin.
"Hi, welcome to Café Luxe Lounge. What can I get you?" The ginger haired girl with freckles and glasses said as she gave a sweet smile.
"Hi, can I have two caramel lattes, one blueberry muffin and one chocolate chip muffin?" I said, returning the politeness.
"Sure. You can wait in the lounge while we're preparing your order." She replied sweetly.
I nodded my head in a thanking gesture and pulled out my phone to reply to my mom's text while walking.
As soon as I sent the message, I crashed into a random person. And since I was in a good mood I didn't harshly tell them to watch where their going next time.
"I'm so sorry! I wasn't paying atte—" I stopped in the middle of my sentence,
"Oh...
it's just you."
I looked up to see my new roommate as he was helping me get back on balance. Once I did, he was still holding on to me and smiling slightly. Oh god, there he goes again.
I snatched my arm back slightly to not seem as rude, since he did stop me from falling flat on my face.
"A simple thank you would be nice." He said.
