Cameron's POV
I walked down the stairs on Monday morning to Wesley already eating breakfast without me. I threw my stuff down and sat beside him.
"Well good morning to you, too," my dad laughed from behind us.
"I'm sorry, I'm just really tired this morning," I yawned.
"How'd you sleep last night?" Wesley asked me.
"Not good. Probably because my cute boyfriend wasn't here to keep me company," I teased, taking a bite of my toast. We finished eating and said our goodbyes to my dad before heading out to our cars.
"Hey, do you care if we both drive today? I have something right after school," Wesley asked suspiciously. He isn't getting tired of me, is he? I ignored his weird behavior and agreed. I followed him into the all too familiar parking lot. I grabbed my stuff from the front seat of my car and waited by his car for him to get out.
"You can head in if you want! I'm gonna hang around a few minutes and wait for Keaton, so I can talk to him about after school," he told me, opening his door but staying in his seat.
"I'll wait for you," I insisted.
"I don't want to make you late. Keaton always shows up two minutes before the bell," he chuckled. That part was true, but it was obvious he didn't want me to know what he was going to talk to Keaton about.
"Alright then. I'll see you in first I guess," I mumbled, turning away from his car.
"Hey! Pretty lady, I think you're forgetting something," Wesley hollered. I turned around and saw that he was puckering his lips and raising his eyebrows at me. I chuckled at him and walked back for a kiss. When I leaned down, he grabbed ahold of my chin and made the kiss extra long. "I love you," he smiled just barely away from my lips. I gave him a final peck and returned the words. When I finally got to first period, I sat my stuff down and Natalie was already bugging me.
"Did Wesley get tired of you? Is that why he's not here right now?" she asked mockingly.
"You wish! He's still in his car waiting on his brother. Even if we did breakup, I know he sure as hell wouldn't be going after you," I scoffed. I'm so tired of her comments. Wesley came strolling in after the bell and sat next to me.
"Are you okay? You're acting weird," I asked quietly.
"Yeah, no, I'm fine! What do you mean weird," he asked, clearly confused. He was playing dumb right now. I don't know why he thinks I don't know he's acting different. When you've been best friends with someone for as long as I have been with Wes, you pick up on these things.
"I don't know. You act like you're hiding something from me. Are you getting annoyed with me? We don't have to spend every waking minute together, I just-" he cut me right off.
"No, Cameron! I would never be annoyed with you! I love spending time with you. We've just been working really hard on our music, and it's stressing me out a lot. I'm sorry if I made you feel like I didn't want to be with you. That's anything but the truth," he clarified. I smiled at him and nodded before Kellerman told us to be quiet. The day dragged on and on, and it seemed like forever until lunch was here. We made it to lunch, and Wesley never came down. Keaton didn't either.
"Does anyone know where they are?" Zac asked the table, which consisted of Haley, Nathan, Callie, him, and me.
"I have no idea. Wesley's been acting weird lately," I told them.
"So has Keaton! I'm glad that Wesley is too because I thought it was me. There must be something going on at home," Callie blurted out, acting almost relieved. I wanted to go look for them, but if Wesley wanted me to know where he was he would've told me. I don't know what this big secret of his is, but I'm sure going to figure it out. I took my lunch tray up to be thrown away and decided to see if I could find him. I feel so attached, but I just need to know what he can't tell me. He's never been able to not tell me something. I walked down to the music room first. He used to spend a lot of lunches there working. He said they'd been doing a lot with their music recently, so maybe that's what he's doing. I walked to the room, and the door was propped open. I stopped before I was in the doorway and listened to see if anyone was in there. My heart immediately started beating rapidly when I heard Wesley's angelic singing.
"Let's take a trip to sunset boulevard in the city of stars," he sang, doing a run on the word stars. It was perfect. I could've listened to it all day. "Wait, it's not right, Keats. Simon would hate it," he stopped. Simon? Who the heck is that and why would it matter if he liked it or not?
"It sounds great, bro! We can run it by Drew when we get home later. I think we almost have it perfected. We're gonna have an amazing audition, okay? We don't need to beat ourselves up so bad that we choke," Keaton told Wesley lightly. They're doing an audition? This is what Wesley didn't want me to know about?
"Wesley?" I called as if I had been looking for him and not eavesdropping. Their heads snapped towards the door.
"Hey, babe! How'd you know I was here?"
"I just guessed," I smiled. "What're you playing? A new song?" I played dumb.
"Nah, just perfecting some old ones. We're going to start recording in the basement soon," he answered, not mentioning any type of audition.
"Oh, well I'm sure they sound amazing. Anything from you guys does. Oh, yeah, Keaton, Callie was looking for you," I mentioned, hoping I could talk to Wesley alone. He nodded at me and started packing up his stuff to head out. Once he left, I decided to get it out of Wesley.
"Can you tell me what's really going on now?"
"What are you talking about?"
"Don't be mad, but on my way in, I heard you talking about an audition. What's that about, and why were you hiding it from me?"
"Oh, god. You can't say a single word to anybody! It was supposed to be a secret. We weren't telling anyone incase it fell through or something. I wasn't trying to hide it. I just didn't want to be embarrassed," he mumbled. He always told me everything that was going on with his music or anything really when we were just friends, so why would he try to hide it now?
"If we were just friends still would you have told me?"
"Yeah, probably," he honestly answered.
"Then why wouldn't you tell me now? I love you and your music! You know I would've supported you no matter what! You have an incredible voice, Wesley. So incredible that I don't think you know how good you are, seriously."
"I don't know, I guess just because I wouldn't have cared if I embarrassed myself in front of my best friend, but my girlfriend? Anyways, thanks, Cam. Sorry I kept it from you."
"But what's the audition for?"
"The xFactor," he barely said above a whisper. My jaw fell to the floor.
"Shut up! Wesley Trent! That's so awesome! What the hell! How could you keep that a secret? You're going to do so amazing, babe," I said excitedly, jumping into his arms.
"I don't know to be honest," he chuckled. He pecked my lips before putting me down. I'm so excited for them and know they'll do amazing.
