Standing outside the art gallery, Alexis rubbed her hands over her arms trying to keep warm. It might be the middle of July, but it felt the night was always much colder with the drop in temperature. It did not matter where you were in the world; it became colder as the day turned into night.

Mumbling to herself, Alexis tried to focus her attention on seeing if Ashton and Michael were even going to appear out of the next taxi that pulled up.  Of course the next taxi the pulled up ended up having a middle aged couple come out. Giving them a small smile as they walked past her, Alexis started to get a little pissed. She had not promised her aunt that she would bring a guest, but she had mentioned it while she was out shopping. Walking back into the party without someone would just result in her aunt saying something that would make her feel bad. It would be along the line of ‘better luck next time’. Better luck with what? Finding a guest that showed up even though she had mentioned that she did not need to have a plus one? The entire thing could just be a bit messy and confusing for either side of the conversation.

Pulling out her phone, Alexis checked the time. There was five minutes until nine, which was when the party was supposed to start. Right now the pre-party was happening. That just meant everyone greeting each other and grabbing some of the finger foods that were served.

Since there seemed to be no more taxis or cars pulling up, Alexis decided to just head inside. That way she would not have to stand outside and catch some common cold that her aunt was always going on about.

Listening to the sound of her black platform pumps hit the ground Alexis paused when she heard name being called out. Frowning slightly, she started to turn around. There running towards her were two guys in suits that were out of breath by the time they reached her.

“We made it,” panted Ashton. His eyes were shut and his hands were on his knees, a position most runners were in while trying to catch their breath.

“Barley,” Alexis snapped, crossing her arms over her chest. Her blue eyes wavered back and forth between the two guys who still seemed like they were going to pass out. “Come on, there’s water inside.”

Stepping forward Alexis linked arms with them and headed towards the doors.

When they got inside the frigid AC greeted them, making any beads of sweat come to a halt. Then in perfect timing a waiter came by with a silver tray with goblets of water that reflected the lights above.

Alexis swiftly grabbed two goblets and handed one to each guy. “Here you go,” she announced, then letting her hands fall to her sides.

After the guys had cooled down they eyed the goblets that they were holding. “Is there a reason we are drinking out of a cup from the medieval ages?” questioned Ashton, hazel eyes flickering up to meet Alexis’s blue eyes.

“There are several art pieces from the medieval ages. This is an art show that is showcasing different pieces from different time periods. My aunt is very proud of it.”

Both nodding, the two guys stayed silent and continued to drain the last of the water out of the goblets. When another waiter walked by the two friends and bandmates set the empty goblets on the tray.

“Is there also a reason why there are waiters?” Michael stepped forward and linked arms with Alexis again. “I mean there are those automatic carts that can just roll around with the tray while not bumping into anything important.”
