"Hello young lady, let's see how baby's doing," the doctor came in and was ready to perform an ultrasound. It was really just a quick check up to see what was going on. She was about to hit six months and vomiting shouldn't have been a thing for her any longer. Once a person is passed sixteen weeks, then it's a done deal.
"Okay..." Lucy kind of lingered and pulled the sweatshirt she was wearing off. She then pulled the camisole up to reveal her belly. She had a very prominent stomach.
Elijah got excited when he saw her belly, and he gently rubbed his hand over it.
That just made Lucy smile. She loved the thought of a family.
The doctor got down to business quickly and put the gel all over her tummy and used the transducer to scope around. "The only reason I am doing this is because, you are five months. The anxiety you're carrying about your mother is not good. Have you ever had a panic attack?"
"When I was little..." she bluntly responded. "When I was taken to school, a lot. I had a separation anxiety, so it's just hard for me to be away from my mom. It makes me nervous and this was not good news for me."
"I understand that," the doctor replied while Elijah took her hand in his. "However, that could result in this baby being premature. Until a baby is in its seventh month, you are not to deliver. I've already looked over everything and I could tell you, your mother is going to be fine."
"She is?" Lucy looked up at him, wide eyed.
"Yes, she is going to be fine and I know it would make her upset if she knew something was wrong. So for all of your sakes; mom, baby, and yourself---I suggest you take a deep breath and try to calm down."
Lucy nodded.
"Here you go," he handed her some tissues to wipe her stomach of the gel. "I know you'll be able to calm down on your own, so I am not going to give you anything," the doctor finally concluded.
She nodded.
"Ready, honey?" Elijah asked her.
She nodded as she slipped the sweatshirt back on. She took Elijah's hand in hers and they made their way back to the lobby.
"Hey, is everything alright?" Lindsey asked as his daughter and son in-law made their way in.
Lucy nodded gently and sat down next to her dad. She curled under his arm and rested comfortable with him in the couch. She had been feeling more content since knowing about her mom.
Pretty soon, the doctor was in once again with another doctor by his side.
Lindsey looked up at him and waited for information. He couldn't get up since Lucy was asleep and in his grasp.
"Mister Buckingham, this is the cardiologist and he's been checking your wife," the doctor mentioned.
"Alright," Lindsey nodded.
"Mister Buckingham, I just wanted to let you know that your wife is still sleeping and she's in good condition. I did an angiogram---so went up her leg and we checked everything out. We checked her heart, she needs a stent. It was a normal heart attack that could have happened to anybody. She has one blocked artery and that was it."
"Stent? how does that work and what--" Lindsey got cut off.
"The stent is going to open up that artery and let the blood flow to the heart like normal. We had to put her to sleep while we did the angiogram, however she'll have to sleep off the rest when she wakes up from that, we can do the stent. She could have another heart attack if we don't go through," the cardiologist said.
