you loved a girl who wrote delicate poetry,
who lit up the room with a shy smile;
who painted and laughed with ease.
but you could not love the girl
who locked herself in her room,
who forgot to eat for a week.
the girl with the saddest anger imaginable,
who stayed up all night to drown her thoughts-
who begged you to rescue her
and could ignore you for months.
you did not love the broken girl,
you could never love her as a whole;
her welling eyes scared you,
her chapped lips froze your cheeks,
her hands felt like spiders
and her voice trembles whenever she speaks.
you are welcome to love her in her glory,
but you do not deserve her
if you can not love her through her pain.
