A/N: A bit of a heads up. There's some foreshadowing in these segments for a story I plan on doing in the future which will be about Hector's life from his birth to the end of the movie! The foreshadowing is in both Hector's segment and Ernesto's. It's just some information about their families and childhoods but nothing else. I hope you all will read that story when I get around to starting it! Thanks for reading!!!

Miguel

You and Miguel continued your get togethers at the lake for weeks. Eventually, your mother tired of your "swimming" excuse and asked you what you were really doing there. You had told her you were hanging out with a friend. She bought it. And you supposed it was true. Miguel was your friend. But as time went on, you couldn't help but wish you were something....more. In your entire twelve years of life, you had never meant a boy like Miguel. In some ways, he was a typical twelve-year-old boy: he liked to play with bugs and mock you everytime you did something even remotely girly. But at the same time, he seemed oddly mature for his age. He spoke about traveling the world and playing music. He spoke about how he learned how to play guitar by studying the fingerings from video tapes of mariachi players. And once, he spoke about a place where he could hide himself away and just get lost in music.

"Would you like...to see it?" He asked you apprehensively one day, during one of your typical meetings at the lake. You looked at him with a confused expression. What was he referring to? Couldn't be the lake. You were already there. And he had said multiple times that there wasn't many places he could play because of his family and their music ban. He noted the look on your face and chuckled. "Don't look at me like that! You know, my hiding place! The only other place I can play! Would you like to see it?"

It occured to you that he had only mentioned this place one time, the day you met. Other than that, he never brought it up. You had started to think that it might have been made up. But curiosity got the better of you.

"Um...Sure!" You replied. "Lead the way!" He smiled widely and grabbed your arm, pulling you from the lake. "Why so fast?!" You asked, startled by the sudden motion.

"It's in a bit of a tricky place!" He replied, yelling over the passing air whipping by your ears. "If we're gonna get in without being busted, we're gonna have to move quick!"

--------

Miguel lead you to his family's compound which only confused you further. "Miguel! Won't your family see us here!" you hissed quietly, not wanting to be heard by anyone other than the boy in front of you.

"Not where we're headed, Y/N!" He whispered back. He headed to a secluded corner of the compound where there was a pile of loose bricks leaned up against the side of a building. Atop the building was a large rusty sign in the shape of a shoe, advertising the Rivera shoe business. Next to the brick pile was a thin tree. Miguel began by lightly placing one foot on the first layer of bricks in the pile and climbing the pile like stairs. He offered you a hand to lift you up the pile, which you gladly took. He kept hold of your hand, leaving a light blush on your cheeks which he did not notice, gracias a Dios. He lead you up a couple rickety planks of wood into the green canopy of the tree.

"Okay," he turned towards you, "all you gotta do now is jump from this branch to the roof. It's a really short jump." You looked at him with wide eyes.

"Are you loco!? I..I can't jump that!" you panicked, frantically waving your hands at the boy. He pouted at you and snickered.

"Ay, Y/N, eres tan cobarde." He shuffled in front of you along the branch and lept from the end to the roof. You were amazed at his grace as he did so. He must have done this a hundred times. He then turned back to your trembling figure still on the branch and extended you a hand.
