10- Kidnapped by Vampires? But it's My Time of the Month!
-----------------------------------L
I continued walking down the hall with David pulling me along by the hand. I would've loved to have him do that any other time, but right now, with him leading me to the chopping block, I could do without it. Oblivious to anything being said to me, I keep walking while studying my surroundings. David had let go of my hand a little while ago. Maybe he felt that I hadn't wanted him touching me at the moment or something, but whatever it was it didn't matter. I hear David saying something to me but it's already too late.
"Lilly, watch your ste-
That's all he gets out. Didn't help me much though, considering I was already rushing towards the ground. I feel arms slide around my waist and a chilling breath on my neck. I'm still breathing hard from the adrenaline rush when I realize what's going on.
"Uh... Thanks again, David." I try to pull away from him. But he won't budge. Goose bumps travel down my spine as I stand there frozen with David's heavy breathing still on my neck. I hear him breathe in deeply and let out a sigh.
"David... Can I go now?" I struggle to get out. Silence. Okay, if he's going to be like that. I bring my knee up quickly and precisely in a spot no man wants to be injured in. David grunts and then doubles over onto the ground. Looking down at him with confusion over why I had to result to such tactics, I hear a door open to the left of us. I turn my head anticipating it to be Daniel, but I end up seeing Derrick instead.
"Oh... Hi, Derrick," I smile innocently at him.
He looks at me with a smile on his face and I guess he ends up seeing David hunched over because his eyes go wide in shock. Derrick stares at David for a minute then I see amusement flicker in his eyes. He looks up at me and smiles widely. Holding out his hand, I reach out and take it. I step over David and walk inside the brightly lit up room. This must be where Derrick stays. I look around curiously. My back is turned and I look at a painting situated on the wall. I study it for a few seconds. Looking back at Derrick, I find him staring at me intently. The look I find there reminds me of the one Dylan gave me on the staircase, except this time he doesn't look down; he continues to stare at me. A blush rises in my cheeks and I turn back to the painting.
A thousand thoughts rush through my mind. Getting the feeling somebody's watching me again, I turn around only to find Derrick standing behind me. I jump back in surprise and end up falling over the chair that was placed in front of the picture. My feet go up in the air with my dress riding upwards. I blush even more furiously and scramble to get up from my shameful position. Derrick's face is one of extreme amusement as he comes over to hold out his hand. I clasp it tightly and he pulls me up and out of the chair and into his chest.
"Are you alright Lilly?" Derrick whispers in my ear.
I momentarily forget where I am. His blond hair tickles my face as he's leaning over me. Then I remember what's happened to me. I step back and look at him square in the face.
"No. I'm not "alright" Derrick, not one bit. All I was going to do was go on a walk and I ended up here, still not having seen my brother after I was told he really needs to talk to me. Then David kind of didn't hold up his end of the deal by taking me to Daniel and then I fell, again, and David wouldn't let me go so I had to hurt him and," I pause for breath, "now-
I'm cut off as a finger is put to my lips.
"Lilly," Derrick says seriously, "I'll take you to Daniel."
"Oh," is all I can get out. My monologue has left me gasping for breath. Derrick's face is grave as he takes my hand and leads me out the door. I guess David ran back to my brother because I don't see him anywhere as we walk down the hall.
"Did you like that painting?" Derrick asks as we continue walking.
"Yes, it was beautiful." I smile.
"Not as beautiful as my view of you when you fell in front of it." My eyes widen in shock and my cheeks blush furiously. I decide not to say anything so as not to make my embarrassment any more apparent.
We keep walking until we reach the end of the hall. Light is filtering under the door with a shadow going back and forth. Derrick steps up and knocks on it lightly. The door swings open abruptly and I see Daniel. He has a worried look in his eyes and his dark hair is messy.
"Thank you, now please leave us," Daniel says to Derrick but while really looking at me. I smile up at blue-eyed man and wave goodbye to him as he walks off. Then I turn my head slowly to Daniel and give him an icy look as I walk into the room while brushing past him.
"Lilly... I am really sorry about what happened and how I can't do anything, but I need you to listen to me about why that is," he says roughly, running a hand through his hair. I walk over to the couch, sit down, then look up at him.
"Fine, why is that? Why is it Daniel, if that's your real name, that you won't do anything about our mother's murder? How do I even know if you are my brother? All of you could be lying to me," I tell him coldly. He looks at me with a pained expression, sort of like the one Dylan wore as I walked out of the greenhouse earlier.
"Lilly," he closes his eyes and sighs. "There's something different about us, something that you may not understand at first. Something..." He pauses and his expression hardens into one that scares me.
"What do you mean, if that's your real name?" He asks, staring hard into my eyes. As I look into them, they start to change. They become darker, and a whole hell of a lot scarier. I gulp and look down into my lap.
"I asked, Lilly. Who. Told. You?" His voice is almost a growl and he walks over to me slowly. I cower in my seat and clench my eyes together. I shake my head, not wanting to reveal anything.
"Lill-
He's interrupted by the door swinging open. I hear a deafening crack as the doorknob lodges into the wall. My eyes widen as I stare into Dylan's.
"I told her." His jaw clenches and he balls his hands into fists. Dylan breathes heavily and the look in his eyes mirrors Daniel's. A guttural sound comes from my brother's throat. Daniel approaches Dylan like a predator stalks his prey. I deduce what's about to happen and quickly get up to stand in front of Dylan.
"Stop, Daniel. Cut it out," I reprimand him, making my words coated with ice.
Daniel surprises me when he starts to laugh. It's filled with disbelief and bitterness.
"You'd defend a murderer's offspring?" Daniel asks. His laughter trails off and his twisted smile turns into an unreadable mask.
"What are you talking about?" I ask him, confused. I look behind me at Dylan and he has that same hurt and pained expression. Looking back at my brother I see all the amusement he had is gone.
"You heard me," he replies curtly.
Exasperated, I ask, "And you heard me. What are you talking about?"
"This man's father," he says it like a dirty word, "murdered both of our parents, and took me away from you."
