"I wish you had called me here earlier Cai. If I only knew what you had in your possession..." He trails off. Petraeus paces back and forth in front of me in the great room.
"What are you talking about?" I lean back in my chair and sigh.
"I'm sorry. I always forget how much younger you are." He stops and sits in the chair opposite of me. "Those siblings aren't normal."
I purse my lips and frown at him. "I know they're different. Adam is sired to me. And Lilly is...well, she's mine."
"Oh I know what she is to you Cai. You forget that I'm your experience when it comes to that." He rolls his eyes at me which is not something you'd normally see on a thousand year old vampire.
"Right. How is Ana by the way?"
"She's just as lovely as ever. But that's not what needs to be talked about here." He furrows his eyebrows at me just like he did a long time ago.
"Ana would not like it if she heard you say that." I chuckle and watch the fire crackle in the fireplace.
"Cai. Please be serious for once. Especially on this since it seems you're so ignorant about it." He says harshly.
My jaw hardens and I look over at him, giving Petraeus my attention.
"Fine. What is it? Why are they not normal?" I sigh again.
"I've seen those siblings before Cai. And not in this century." He stares me in the eyes forcing me to think about what he's saying.
"How is that possible? Lilly's a human and Adam is still a fledging." I say.
"Exactly. Now you get it. Those two are more powerful than you think Cai. Which is why you must turn Lilly. Right away." He tells me sternly.
"Why must I do that?" My certainty is wavering under the weight of his words.
"Adam is yours Cai. He's sired to you. But Lilly, though she is yours by blood, she can be sired to someone else. Get the picture? Every vampire that knows who she is will come after her." He glances at the doorway as if to see if someone is there.
"Just who are they exactly that everyone wants what's mine?" I ask, my voice strained.
"Nobody knew how to handle those two. They were unpredictable, powerful and very old. Together, they ruled parts of underground Europe much to many vampires disdain. I met them once on my travels in Rome before the Fall. Shortly after they were killed. Melaine and Taro were their names at the time. But they too were different. Which is why they were hated." He closes his eyes as if trying to remember something.
He continues, "They both swore when they died that they'd come back and destroy the person who took everything from them. It seems they must have achieved this considering the two that are now in your care. They chose you for a reason Cai, so somehow you must be related to all of this. And you are not normal yourself either." Petraeus leans back in the chair and clasps his hands in front of him, studying me.
"So Lilly is in danger right now as a human?" I ask, worried.
"Well, not in danger per say. But I doubt Melaine would be very happy to be sired to the one person she vowed to destroy. Who, by the way, is heading here now." He says nonchalantly. He then gets very serious and leans forward towards me.
"She's coming here Cai. Which I don't really have a problem with. I was one of her firsts. She's long since tired of me. But you on the other hand... How long did she have you for? Fifty years? That's not very long on her standards. I guarantee you she's here for more then just Adam and Lilly." He smirks and gets up from his chair.
