Well guys, it's the end. Been over five years since I started this story and it is finally over. Thank you to everyone who has supported me through all of this! My writing style has definitely changed since I began this story and I feel you can really see that through Lilly. She was never the perfect heroine but she was the first one I put to print so I'll always have a soft spot for this story. Well, here's the last chapter, hope y'all enjoy! Oh and definitely give the song a listen. It is River Runs Dry by Scavenger Hunt and fits perfectly with this chapter.

My eyes flutter open just as I hear a piercing scream rush through the cool air around me. Sitting up from my resting place in the grass outside the house, I begin to search for the noise. Luckily, the neighborhood is plenty spread apart, so no prying eyes from unassuming humans have been seen."Lilly, is that you?"
A voice that is refreshing to my ears comes from behind me.
I smile tiredly. "It's me."
"Oh thank goodness." Cai rushes towards me and pulls me into him.
"I never thought I'd be myself again. It was like I was trapped behind a glass window where I could see everyone else, but no one could see or hear me," Cai says in a hollow tone.
"Mine was much of the same." I shiver, thinking about Melaine's sudden appearance.
"Lilly! Are you alright?" Adam comes out of the house with Eleanor tucked safely under his arm. The woman looks faintly weak and unsure of her general surroundings.
"Yes, I'm fine Adam. I'm me again. And I'm so glad you're you, because that Taro dude seemed like a bit of a douche. Come to think of it, I don't see much of a difference." I smirk at him while he rolls his eyes then grins.
"I'm glad you're you too, Lilly." Adam sighs pleasantly.
"Lilly?" A small voice come from the shadow of the doorway.
I whip my head around. "Dylan?" I walk over to him slowly almost as if in a daze.
Dylan smiles gently down at me and caresses my cheek. My tummy flutters in response. He then pulls me into an embrace, his fingers stroking my hair softly.
"I'm so glad you're alright. I wasn't sure if what she said was true but I knew I had to try." Dylan murmurs against my neck.
I pull back a little and look into his strange but haunting eyes. "What happened to her?"
"She won't be bothering anyone anymore, love." Hearing him use that word sends a pang of guilt through me and I step back. Cai walks up behind and slips his arm around my waist. I frown slightly without thinking which surprises myself. Dylan doesn't miss this subtle exchange and looks down at me with a certain look in his eyes that suggests he knows something that he's not saying.
"I can't thank you enough for saving us, son." Cai says.
Dylan's eyes narrow. "You know better than I that I am no longer your blood. And even now you can tell that you would stand no chance against me. Act accordingly."
"Is everyone alright?" Derrick drives up with several of Cai's other subordinates.
"You're a little late to the party, Ren." Dylan smirks.
"Dylan? What are you doing here?" Derrick asks bewilderedly.
"It's a long story. Which will have to wait for another day. Lilly, I must go. I do not belong in this place anymore. But I will ask this only once of you, will you leave with me?" Dylan's eyes pierce mine as I stand dumbfounded at his abruptness.
"You know I can't do that..." I say quietly. My heart breaks as I say the words. I look at him imploringly.
He nods as if already expecting the answer. "I understand. I will try and visit every once in a while. Goodbye, Lilly." Dylan leaves without a second thought and with him, a piece of my heart.
Cai's arm weighs heavily on my shoulders so I slip out of them.
"Are you okay, Lilly?" Cai asks me in a worried tone. I decide to ignore it and slowly walk back to the house.
As I'm walking, I glance down at the arm my mark used to reside on. It is all but non-existent: a distant memory. The last time I walked in this house as myself, I was a human. It all seems like a dream now. Everyone who has ever tried to hurt me or has hurt me is either locked up or dead. I should feel at peace, especially as a newborn vampire.
If that's true, then why does my heart ache so much?
-----------------------------------------
Life passes on as usual. Well, as usual as it can as a vampire. Cai treats me wonderfully. The house is constantly alive with all the vampires that come and go. Not that the actual vampires mentioned are alive themselves that is...
Dylan didn't break his promise. He visits every few months. Sometimes I can hear the roar of his motorcycle from miles away and my heart skips a beat. Then I'll run to the front yard as he zooms up the driveway, the bike leaving tire tracks in the gravel. We talk. I ask him about his travels and he answers me, his eyes always watching me intently. But after a few days he leaves again. The first few times, Cai stood by my side as I watched him drive into the distance. Then this stopped. I think he understood the maelstrom that is my heart. After the fifth time I watched Dylan leave, I noticed my feet responded by taking a few steps forward. Almost as if they were subconsciously longing for that which they did not have. Then the ninth time came that he left. I got all the way down the driveway before I noticed what I was doing.
I always imagined what it would be like if I just hopped on the back of his motorcycle and rode off into the distance with him.
Then one day, I did just that.
