Dear Simon,
I had the best day of school. It was so amazing. I don’t even know any other words to describe it. I woke up in the morning and actually, wrapped my hair in to a tight bun. I pinned two of my old favorite ear rings in to my air, applied some mascara and eye liner and a touch of blush. My make up kit was working its magic as it used to because walking out the house I gained a couple stares. Even my walk was different, a little more confident. Everything is changing and I love it.
Mom’s mouth dropped open when she saw me leaving. She grabbed me before I got to the door and pulled me in to a too tight hug. “Oh honey, you’re back.” I gave her a smile and watched as she eyed me up and down. I actually wore something nice today. A pair of skinny jeans, my black converse and a plaid shirt that I left open, exposing the white shirt underneath. “Why the sudden change?” She had asked. I actually told her.
“I made some new friends at Playland. I guess you were right, a job is a good idea.” Mom kissed my forehead and searched through her purse.
“I’m so happy you said that. Do they go to your school?” I nodded and watched her hands fly up to her heart. Why must she be so melodramatic? She pulled out a couple dollars and placed it in my hand.
I looked at her questioningly. Mom rarely gave me money unless I asked. And now that I dress nicely she places a twenty in my hand. “Maybe you and your friends will go out after school.” And we did Simon! I am trying so hard not to tell you the story in broken pieces. So much happened that I have to blab about.
I left mom and walked to school, still for some reason avoiding the bus. I got to school five minutes before the bell, which gave me five minutes to find Lincoln. Before I even came around the corner, I saw them sitting in the grass by the school sign. My heart struggled to continue beating easily. I didn’t need to put blush on, I had enough of the natural tone going.
His eyes caught mine and I momentarily panicked, I hope he didn’t think I was staring at him, even though I was. He raised his hand and waved me over. The front of the school was crowded, so I can understand why he did it. He must think I have other friends. I walked over to him and the few people he was around. I saw Scarlet’s bright hair and almost jumped in giddiness. How had I already started liking her when I just met her yesterday? To walk to Lincoln, I had to pass Amber and her stupid friends chatting up a storm. But I was glad that I did. Her eyes stayed on me as I walked confidently pass her and to my new friends. I dropped my bag on the grass and took a seat in their sloppy circle.
Scarlet was the first to greet me with a huge smile. “Hi, Hedy.” She chirped.
“Hey, Scarlet. Hi, Lincoln.” I said in a light greeting. Everyone else around the circle looked unfamiliar.
Lincoln gave me a smile and then rolled his eyes, taking my hand. I almost went tomato red again. “This is getting annoying.” He whispered to me before turning to the rest of his friends. He lifted my hand. “Everyone this is Hedy.” I chuckled as he introduced me to his other group of friends. “Hedy, this is Blake, Chester, Kyle and Scarlet, you already know.” His friends at school seem a little less friendly but they still nod their heads towards me. Blake has a dark look to him. Brown hair and dark eyes, he has a tattoo on his wrist, written in italic. It says Save Me. Chester is black; he wears a black necklace and seems to have more style than anyone else. His white shirt and black vest with black skinny jeans combo fits him. I must say though that Kyle caught my eyes more than any of them did. He looked like he belonged nowhere in this group. He had blonde hair, was extremely muscular and had blue eyes a shade lighter than Lincoln’s. He looked like a California boy.
“Casper doesn’t go here?” I asked turning to Lincoln.
“He used to, he graduated last year. And Zion is like 25.” I guess that’s why Zion is so grumpy, he’s probably just mad that he is an adult working at an amusement park. They all started talking about some concert coming up. From the looks of it Lincoln can’t make it, because he has work.
