After being pulled out of the Inga, I was shoved into a truck and taken back to the plane with my hands bound. Then, I was knocked out by injection. I woke what must have been hours later and was staring at a pile of gear on top of a mountain.

"What the hell?" I attempted to shake the fog from my head.

"Part two jackass." Warren smirked. "Everest. Base jumping."

"What?" I could taste my own fear. "You want me to..."

He pointed to the edge. "If you want to save her, you'll jump."

"Jump?" It was then I noticed the suit I was wearing. I'd seen videos of base jumping, but I'd never been.

Caroline threw a helmet at me. "You'll need this."

"It's time. We'll see you at the landing spot." Warren tossed the pack on the back of a quad.

"I still want to know why." I demanded.

They got on the vehicle, ignoring my question. "Remember, she's counting on you."

"To not die," I finished his sentence.

Warren started the quad. "To not get her killed. Go. Time is running out."

I walked to the edge of the cliff and looked over. Anger swelled up and engulfed my fear like a storm rolling over a small town.

"Tick tock." Caroline said in a melodic yet cruel tone.

I pulled the goggles down and adjusted them over my eyes and then... jumped.

Despite having seen the type of suit I was wearing, I had no clue how to use it. I could only think to pull my legs apart and spread my arms, hoping the wind would catch the wings that were attached to all of my limbs. My breath caught as I waited to feel a change in velocity; to start coasting instead of continuing to plummet toward the ground with a nauseating pace.

Emma's face flashed through my mind, and fear settled back in at the thought of the things they could be doing to her. All I had to do was survive eight challenges. I adjusted my position slightly and finally felt myself slow. Everything came into focus a bit more, and I moved my limbs to continue coasting and even attempt to slow my pace with the ground coming up to meet me with speed.

Despite my best attempts, my landing came swift and painful.

I stopped tumbling down the mountainside and stood, seeing the quad carrying Warren and Caroline coming across the fresh snow. I held out my helmet to Warren as he approached and was about to speak when his fist connected with my jaw.

He picked up the helmet from the ground between us and handed it to Caroline.

I rubbed my jaw. "What the hell? I jumped. I survived."

He scoffed and walked away.

"You missed your mark." She sank the needle in deeper than normal just as I heard a helicopter approaching. I wasn't awake long enough to see it fly overhead before succumbing to the sedation.
