Rachel sighed and saved Dean's number before putting her phone down on the bathroom counter. A shower after a long shift usually made her feel better. Tonight however, even the coldest water couldn't cool her down. She leaned forward in the mirror to examine her pure-gold iris's, those didn't shock her so much.

Rachel is a Child of the moon. The lunar cycle dictates her life. Her father (Victor Woods) was bitten by a werewolf at a young age, effectively changing him. Werewolves cannot reproduce naturally unless they mate with a magical being. Rachels mother (Alicia Woods) happened to be a witch, she died during childbirth.

The first few years of her life were almost normal, her father was so relieved that she hadn't inherited anything from his curse. It wasn't until the first full moon after her fifth birthday that they discovered her illness.

** Sixteen years ago (April 2003) **

"Daddy, do I get to play with wolfie tonight?" asked a young Rachel.

Victor laughed lightly at his daughter "yes darling, tomorrow night too."

A happy squeal erupted from his daughter. Victor knew she loved nights of the full moon. After her mother gave birth to her, he was terrified of what he would do. He had just lost his wife, and the full moon was seven days away. He didn't want to hurt his baby girl.

During the pregnancy Alicia would go to her mother's house when these nights would come, Victor had no idea where it was for their safety. Once he changed, he lost control of who he was and became unpredictable. He couldn't risk having that knowledge available to the demon inside him.

He was thankful his mother-in-law was in the area for her daughter's funeral the distraught woman saw the fear and pain in his eyes and willingly agreed to keep the baby this one time during his change. It was almost the biggest mistake of his life.

The old witch blamed the child for the death of her daughter, when she picked up baby Rachel from Victor before moonrise she did so with a smile upon her face. Once he changed Victor's beast immediately felt threatened and hunted them down. He came upon the screaming child laying in the mud with the woman hovering over her a silver dagger in her hand, preparing to plunge it into the babe.

He slaughtered the woman before she could even realize he was there. He recognized the child as his own blood, his cub. His cub was being threatened therefore the old woman needed to be destroyed.

Victor's elongated canine jaw clamped down tightly on the woman's right shoulder joint and pulled. His teeth tore at her flesh as the strength of his mandible dislocated her shoulder causing her arm to go limp and the blade to fall from her once tight grip.

Her screams only egged him on. They were like pure music to his ears. His claws tore at the flesh of her back exposing her spine and rib cage. No one threatened his cub. No one.
