"So, how'd it go?" Ben inquired as Dean returned to his desk."He has to speak with the commissioner and the board, I should know something by tomorrow morning," Dean sighed and rolled his neck, "the best thing I can do right now is just get back to work. Are those the reports for this morning?"
"Yeah," Ben said and tossed the report across the desk, "Alana Cross, 22, Nurse in the diagnostics department. Same as all the others slashed out stomach, and a crushed larynx."
"The only thing that links the victims is that they work for the hospital," Dean observed as he read over the file, "otherwise all the victims are completely different."
"I've sent a request for employee files at the hospital," Ben sighed and turned to the corkboard behind him, "I feel like we're missing something."
Dean groaned, "that's a lot of paperwork."
Ben chuckled, "yeah, but there has to be something that links these people together, other than their place of employment."
"While we wait for the mountain of hell to come in, we can dig a little deeper into our victims. See what they did in their off time, hobbies if they belonged to any organizations together," Dean tossed the file on his desk and walked over to examine the board, "every death was a creature attack."
"Or was made to look like one at least," Ben commented.
"I'm still leaning toward a rogue werewolf."
"Dean we've been over this. The cuts are to clean."
Dean shrugged, "I requested to examine the registry anyway..."
"What?" Ben interrupted, "when did you do that?"
"Last week, the file with the access codes came in yesterday before I left."
"Dean you can't look at that registry," Ben paled.
"Look I understand you don't think werewolves are involved but, my gut is telling me I need to examine it," Dean turned to Ben and took in his appearance, "you okay bud?"
"Yeah," He nodded, "what if we split it? You take A through M and I'll check N though Z?"
"Nah," Dean waved him off while walking back to his chair, "there's only what, 200 wolves in the local pack, it won't take me long to breeze through. Besides you don't look too well you should probably head home."
Ben groan in frustration and rubbed his hands roughly against his face, "I'm fine!"
Dean paused to look at his partner, his eyes were pleading with him as if scared. He watched as Bens hands subtly clenched and unclenched at his side, Dean's eyes narrowed, "what's going on?"
"Nothing," Ben sighed with a shake of his head, "I'm just trying to share the workload that's all."
"Okay," Dean picked up the access codes off his desk, "then you can take A to M and I'll take N to Z."
"Wait!" Ben looked panicked he looked down at his desk and ran his hands through his hair.
"What the fuck is wrong, Ballias?" Dean Snapped at his friend.
"I CAN'T TELL YOU!" Ben's eyes met Deans as he yelled back making several heads to snap in their direction.
Dean turned to glare at the others in the bullpen "mind your own business!" He turned his glare to his best friend, "what do you mean?"
Ben sighed, "I can't tell you."
"Yeah, you said that!"
"No, I literally can tell you," Ben snapped, "I took a vow of silence."
Dean's jaw clenched in anger, "you're a member of authority in this town, you're not supposed to take those. It's dangerous and can result in you losing your job."
"I took it before I became a cop, Dean."
"So, you've been hiding something from me for four years?" Dean asked disbelief and betrayal laced in his voice.
"It's not my secret to tell!"
"What am I gonna find when I go through this registry Ben?" Dean slapped the folder he was holding down on the desk, his hands began waving around erratically, "your wife? Your nanny? Your brother?"
"Dean please," Ben sounded almost defeated, "just let it go, we can find another way to figure out if it ties to the lycan community."
Dean's head snapped up his glare switching from the file to Ben's face, only a select number of people referred to werewolves in their proper name. His heart started to race as he reached out for the file and flipped it open. He turned to his computer, opened the database and begun entering the information on the paper in front of him.
"Dean, please don't do this," Ben pleaded snatching the file off the desk.
It was too late, he was already in. His hands shook as his fingers typed, please let it just be a theory. Let his imagination be getting the best of him, two results popped up from his search.
Dean's jaw tightened as he clicked on a name he was dreading to see.
"Dean," Ben's voice seemed so far away from him even though Dean knew he was right behind him. He couldn't tear his eyes away from the photo on the screen, anger, and betrayal coursed through his veins. He clicked on the 'Print' button and logged out of the system. Ignoring Ben and snatching an empty folder out of his desk he stormed to the printer.
"Dean, think about this!" Ben pleaded.
The detective pulled the printed pages out of the tray and stuffed them into the empty folder, Dean turned to glare at his partner before fading out of the bull pin.
"Fuck," sighed Ben, he pulled his cell phone from his pocket pressed a few buttons and pressed it to his ear.
"We have a problem," he said as soon as she picked up not even waiting for her to say hello.
