Rachel faded back to her office, just in time to hear the test results printing in the lab. Before she could collect the papers, her phone started ringing. Slipping it out of her pocket she smiled at the screen and answered, "Hello.""Hey, baby."
"Dean, what's wrong?" even though she could hear him practically beaming there was an edge to his voice that worried her, that and he didn't typically call her at work.
"Long story short, we got a call to the hospital, and I needed to make sure you were okay."
"I'm fine," she replied not able to control the blush or smile that spread across her cheeks.
"Hey, have you heard from Megan today? Ben can't get a hold of her."
"Yeah, she was here a few hours ago," Rachel tried not to laugh as she continued, "said she dropped her phone in the toilet last night."
"That explains a lot. I've gotta get on the road, I know how you hate when I'm on the phone and driving."
"If she pops up down here again, I'll text you. Be careful babe," Rachel shook her head. You would think being a cop he would see just as much (if not more) of the results of phone usage while driving. Being magic doesn't stop death.
"Same. I will, I love you."
"I love you too," she responded with a happy sigh. Dropping her phone back into her pocket Rachel walked out back into the lab to collect the results from the tray to discover them missing.
"Derrick," she called out.
"Yeah?" He asked from the other side of the lab.
"Do you know what happened to the blood work papers that printed a few minutes ago?"
"Yeah," he said putting down the test tube he was separating, "they're in the finished tray to be filed."
"Now he wants to do his job properly," she thought but gave him a grateful smile, "thanks."
"Yup," he responded, returning to his task.
Rachel picked up the files and paperwork in the tray "might as well file all of them," she thought.
Her phone beeped in her pocket as well as Derricks across the room.
"What the hell happened upstairs," she mumbled as she read the mass text from the hospital.
"Nurse was murdered in an exam room."
Rachel's head snapped up to look at Derrick, he was facing her and stacking slides next to a microscope. She cocked an eyebrow at him, and he shrugged his shoulders, "I gotta friend who was one of the first on the scene."
"Any word on who?" She asked, remembering her call from Dean.
"No," Derrick said, "they were waiting for the detectives to arrive before identifying her. Although I suppose they know considering the text we just received."
