Ring ring
"Hey y/n! What's up?"
"Nothing much, just had a question in the math packet."
"Oh, I'm almost done with that, I'll call you when I'm done."
"Oh, ok. I'll talk to you then."
I put the phone down and sighed. I looked at the time. 11:47 pm. It was almost midnight. There's no way she'd call me later.
I did the rest of my homework, ignoring the few math problems I didn't understand. Once I was done, I checked the time again. 1:15 am. And she said she'd call me. I texted her to see if she'd respond.
Y/n
Hey, I was wondering if you could send me the answers.
I don't understand the last few questions.I watched as it said read, but I got no reply. So much for friends I thought. Oh well, it's my problem. School's gonna be rough tomorrow. I put my homework and pencils away and tucked myself into bed. My parents were already asleep so I didn't expect them to come into my room. I fell asleep thinking about what my teacher would say the next day.
"Hey, y/n! Wake up! You're gonna be late!"
I jolted up and saw my mom with her hands on her hips. I quickly pushed past her and got ready. I put on my uniform, ate breakfast, and ran out the door with my bag and lunch. I reached the bus stop in record time and although no one knew, I was pretty proud of myself. When I reached the school building, I headed to my locker and saw my friends.
"Hey guys!"
"Oh, hi y/n!"
My friends, Ji Kwon, Ki Yong, Nami, and Min Jae, replied before going back to their conversations. I silently opened my locker and got the homework I needed for my classes. I then went to class without my friends.
In class I sat in my seat towards the windows. I sat all the way in the back so I could see everyone in class. I watched as my friends came in, laughing to themselves.
"Hey guys! What're you talking about?"
Ji Kwon looked at me before answering.
"Oh, it's kinda long and hard to explain. Sorry."
She sat in the seat in front of me with Ki Yong beside her. Nami sat in front of her.
"Hey Min Jae, can you sit next to me?"
I asked her quickly. I hoped she might for once say yes.
"Oh, sorry, I promised Nami I'd sit next to her."
"Oh ok."
Everyone was talking till the bed and I was in the back straining to hear what my own friends were saying. Everyone became silent as my teacher, Ms. Song, walked into the room.
"Hello class. I hope you did the homework."
Half the class groaned. I looked at my friends who were relaxed and whispering to each other.
Last night I had asked Nami for answers and she left me hanging. And now she's the most relaxed out of all of them.
"Hey, you ok?"
Ji Kwon looked at me with concern.
"I'm fine."
Just as quickly as she turned towards me, she turned around and resumed her conversation.
I heard the teacher call the attention of the class. She passed out a warm up math sheet as she went and checked everyone's homework. I heard as she caught one guy with unfinished homework. Some hyung guy. I waited till she got to me. When she came to me I gulped as the pages of my math packet flipped over.
"Y/n, see me after school."
My friends looked at me surprised. Especially Nami. I looked at them and gave a goofy grin once the teacher left.
"Oops! Well I didn't do a few problems."
I saw Ki Yong give me a look of disgust. Whatever. I don't need to be perfect. I can make mistakes every now and then.
The rest of the day was nothing special. During lunch, Ji Kwon and Nami were throwing insults at each other and laughing. Ki Yong was still giving me looks and Min Jae sat next to me, but didn't look at me once.
After school, my friends didn't even wait for me or even say bye. They simply left. I headed to my math classroom and saw the other kid there.
"Hey."
He looked pretty cute. His hair had a sort of gray tint and was pretty curly. He gave me a boxy smile and got up from his seat.
"Oh. Hi. My name's y/n,"
I quickly bowed in recognition and so did he. I heard heels clicking in the hallway and looked to the door to see Ms. Song, our math teacher.
"So, both of you decided to skip the homework so you're here. I don't need explanations, but you will finish a extra worksheet right now to compensate for your actions."
She slapped a worksheet on both of our desks before leaving. It seemed easy, but we were still required to stay for an hour and a half. This would take me five minutes. I heard the silver haired boy laugh.
"She said compensate!"
I don't know why he found that funny, but I started laughing a bit too.
"By the way, I don't think I introduced myself, but my name's Taehyung. Kim Taehyung."
"Oh, well my name's y/f/n."
"Cute!"
I smiled. He sounded like a five year old.
"So, do you understand any of this worksheet. I think I'll need two hours to finish it."
Taehyung said as he held his head.
"This is easy. I can help you out."
"Then why are you here? You seem like you know what to do. Did you actually skip homework?"
"Oh, I was confused on the last page, and my friends weren't free so I couldn't get help."
"You could've guessed right?"
"You could've too! And Ms. Song wants work shown. I didn't know how to do it so I left a few blank. Oops!"
I expected him to laugh, but instead he looked confused.
"Well that's not really smart. And couldn't your friends just send you a copy of what they had?"
I looked down. I didn't want him to see my face. I was pissed. Why wouldn't I be.
"Taehyung."
"Just call me Tae. That's what everyone does."
"Ok then, Tae. I don't really know. I don't feel as comfortable or happy with them anymore. It's like I don't exist. They ask me for help, but when I ask them, I'm the last task on their list. An optional task."
"I'm sorry."
"Please don't be. It's not your fault. Let's continue with the math worksheet, shall we?"
He nodded and looked at his sheet. He pursed his lips before looking back at me.
"I reeeaaally don't understand this!"
He wined. I laughed before dragging my seat over.
"Then, how about we do it together."
