I'm sorry if this chapter sucks.

All that thinking, all that searching, somehow led me walking up the steps I feared I'd never have the privilege of walking up again.

I didn't even make it to the apartment door. There his shirtless figure stood, leaning against the railing of their convenient balcony in front of the door, taking a long, slow drag from the cigarette in his hand.

He put his head down and I realised he was so lost in whatever he was thinking about, he wasn't going to notice my presence.

"Hey," I choked out with a smile that was probably obvious that it was fake.

His head flicked in my direction and his expression hardened. "What are you doing here?" I had forgotten how sweet his accent sounded in my ears, even if his tone was unsatisfied.

I felt like weights were piling up on the corners of my lips as I tried to keep on my smile. "Just wanted to stop by and say hey... It's been a while."

"Well you've accomplished your goal," he dismissed me then turned back and leaned against the railing again.

I gave up smiling, letting my face fall. I wasn't leaving yet though. I didn't build up all that courage to convince myself to come here just to say one word.

"I thought you quit," I said the first thing that came to mind, gesturing to the cigarette in his hand.

Without looking at me he replied with, "Old habits come back." His tone was flat and startling as he took another drag to prove his point. "Do you not have plans with Niall or something?"

My feet took a step closer to him without permission. "I get it, Zayn. I'll leave. But I'm not walking away until you tell me why you just shoved me away out of no where." I threw myself off guard by my sudden amount of confidence.

He looked at me and his expression was unreadable. "I told you," he answered.

"You said you lost faith in me," my feet pulled me closer. "But I'm still lost on what I did that was so unfaithful, you made the decision to dump me in the matter of two minutes."

"What are you talking about?" His face showed honest confusion as I made my way next to him.

"On the car ride back, you seemed eager to make sure I wasn't planning on leaving you because of what Sophia did. But once we walked through the front door, you had your mind set on calling it all off. Going to one party must've really pissed you off to make you want to end everything like that. Unless you had been planning on dumping me for a while and I just gave you the perfect excuse to leave."

"You're speaking nonsense!" He exclaimed.

"Then, please, explain, because I've been sulking for the past two weeks trying to figure out what I did that was so wrong."

"You snuck out to go to some party and didn't even bother to inform me. Plus the last party you went to resulted in your face being smooshed against Niall's Forgive me for being a little upset." Attitude grew in his voice as he flicked away his cigarette butt.

"Wow," I laughed humourlessly. "You're honestly going to bring that into this situation?! I was drunk, Zayn! I was pissed off at you! If I really wanted to be with Niall, you wouldn't have given me that car ride home months ago and we wouldn't be in this situation."

He stayed silent, staring down at the ground three stories below us.

"I'm sick of these excuses, Zayn!" I snapped when I realised he wasnt going to reply. He lifted his head and looked at me with annoyed eyes. "Why did me going to that party piss you off so damn much?"
