When Matthew picked me up from school, we discussed how my day went and I told him about all the new people I had met.
The entire car ride, I am an anxious mess about the party. I've never lied to Matthew (or Marilla) in my entire life and I feel incredibly guilty, but at the same time, excited.
Does sneaking out count as lying? Well, I guess not. It's more of... not telling the truth?
So, lying.
We pull up to Green Gables, the trees low hanging branches lightly scrape the car windows and it smells faintly of lavender. I smile. I'm so lucky to live here.
I race up to my room and pull my phone out of my pocket. Diana and I had exchanged numbers at lunch so I text her asking for the details about the party tonight.
As I wait for her reply, I start scrolling through Instagram. I notice I have a few follow requests: ruby.gillis, josxpye, dianabarry, janeee01, tillieb, and gilbertblythe.
I accept them all, even Gilbert. I click on his name and start scrolling through his pictures. They're all in black and white, of course he'd be the one to have an extra black and white theme.
Am I seriously stalking Gilbert Blythe right now? I groan and throw my phone on my bed. All of a sudden it dings and I pick it up again.
Diana: party's @ 9, i'll send u the location. btw instead of sneaking out u should just tell ur parents ur sleeping over at my place, since we'll probs be there all night.
So I guess I do have to lie.

5 hours later my hair is slightly curled, and I even put on a slight layer of mascara, because why not? I even managed to not poke my eye out while doing it.
I take a deep breath and race down the stairs.
"Hello, Marilla. I was wondering if I could stay at a friends' tonight?" I say quickly.
"Of course! I'm glad you're making friends honey," Marilla smiles.
"Thank you. I'll see you guys later." I wave to Matthew in the kitchen and head out the door.
I did it! My heart is racing more than usual and I pull out my phone, entering the location Diana sent me into Google Maps.
Only a 5 minute walk. I smile as I tread along, looking at the beautiful fall colors around me.
I make it to the address. There are cars parked down the street but otherwise the night is still. It's not like the movies, there aren't red solo cups all over the yard and music blasting from the house.
I follow a group of people inside and I'm instantly enveloped in hot air and electronic music pulsing the floor every few seconds.
I look around, trying to find someone I know but I can't see anybody. All of a sudden an arm grabs me and pulls me into another room.
"Anne! I'm so glad you came!" Diana smiles brightly at me. I notice we're in a kitchen and she hands me a plastic cup.
I give her a look. "Try it. Trust me, it's good," she pleads.
I've never drank before. But could it hurt? I take a sip, and she's right. It is really good. Like sprite mixed with something slightly sour, but in a good way.
"Follow me."
She leads me into the living room, which is the most packed. We take a seat on the couch beside Ruby, Tillie, Josie, and Jane.
They all start talking and I take a moment to look around. There's a couple making out in the corner, people "dancing" (more like grinding, gross). Everyone looks relaxed and happy. I love this.
Gilbert Blythe and his friends enter the room and Ruby waves them over, great. Just great.
She stands up from the couch and puts her hand on his arm. "I've been looking for you," Ruby bites her lip.
He smiles. "Well you found me." His eyes drift to mine and I quickly look away, embarrassment flushing through me as I realize I was caught staring.
"Let's play a game," Josie says, and everyone groans, but agrees.
She makes us sit in a circle and I'm between Cole and Tillie.
"Okay, we're playing spin the bottle. Who wants to go first?"
Ruby raises her hand. I watch anxiously as her manicured hand reaches for the bottle, spinning it.
It lands on Gilbert.
Ruby's eyes light up in excitement and she leans in, their lips touching before he pulls away.
A weird feeling passes through me but I shake it off.
A few more people go and then it's Josie's turn.
She spins the bottle, and it lands on Cole.
She flips her hair to the side and leans in for the kiss.
"I don't want to kiss you," he blurts.
The room goes silent. Josie gasps, "Are you like gay or something?"
Everyone starts laughing until he says, "no I just don't want to kiss you."
It goes silent but I start giggling. I can't seem to stop laughing, the look on Josie's face is priceless.
Cole starts laughing too and Josie quickly stands and rushes out of the room.
When they tell me it's my turn to spin, my heart quickly stops.
Have I thought this through? Yeah, it's been kind of fun, but that's only because I haven't had to kiss anyone yet.
Do I really want my first kiss to be with some drunk stranger?
"I apologize, but I have to go to the bathroom," I stutter before racing out of the room.
I weave my way through the crowd and find a door leading to a patio. Once the fresh air hits my face I instantly relax.
When I look around I notice a couple making out on a chair. That's when I realize it's... Josie and Billy Andrews?
I cough and she immediately jumps out of his lap, glares at me, and rushes inside.
Geez what is her problem? Can the girl just chill?
Billy glances at me before following Josie inside.
Well, at least I can get some peace and quiet now.
