Nerves

"I can't believe school starts tomorrow," Diana says while glaring at her french fries.

"At least it's our senior year, it should be fun!" I smile and through my arms up exaggeratedly.

Diana shakes her head and smiles. We decided to spend our last day of freedom together, enjoying the sunny weather.

Ruby couldn't make it, apparently she's "busy."

"Have you gone on any college tours yet?" She asks me.

I furrow my brows. I haven't really thought about college. Of course I've dreamt of going somewhere lavish and exciting my whole life but this past year has made me lose focus of my future. My grades are good enough to go to most places but I don't have a dream school, it seems.

"No, have you?" I reply, taking a sip of my Diet Pepsi.

"Yeah, I've gone to Boston College and TSU, I still want to visit Berkeley or maybe Minnesota!" She beams.

How could this be? Diana is more organized than I am.

"We love that for you," I smile genuinely.

"Come on, let's go shopping."

4 hours and 10 shopping bags later, I finally stumble into my room and throw everything on the ground.

I'd rather take one trip carrying 50,000 things than make multiple trips back and forth.

Diana dropped me off so now I'm alone. Nervous thoughts about school run through my mind.

Not bad nervous, just general nervousness. Last year I was super excited and ready to take on the adventure that was high school, but having gone through it for only a year I know my expectations were way higher than they should have been.

I feel a space in my heart continue to grow the longer I go without talking to Gilbert. We haven't really talked since the party, and I miss his company and comfort he always seems to bring me.

But it's for the best. I know I don't want to just be his friend, and I think he knows that. He's with Ruby, Ruby's my friend, so I stay in my lane.

Doesn't stop it from hurting though.

I flop onto my bed, sighing.

Please let this year be a good one.
