Vanessa's P.O.V.

He was always scared to talk to other people. He was always shy. He didn't have that much friends.

Wanna know his name? It's Shawn... Shawn Mendes.

The incredibly intelligent student in our class.

As I walked around the halls, I heard a boy shouting.

"Stop it, please!" The voice pleaded.

I followed where the sound was coming from as I saw Shawn on the floor, three sophomores standing around him.

"Huh, watcha gonna do about it? Cry to your mama?" One of the sophomores mimicked.

"Can you please just leave me alone?!" Shawn shouted.

I decided that I wasn't just going to stand here and do nothing about it. I walked towards them and pushed the boy who was about to kick Shawn on the floor.

"Hey!" I shouted. "Stop that! Are you idiots?! You guys are sophomores and you're bullying a freshman? That just shows that you guys are cowards!"

"What did you say, missy?" One of the sophomores took a step forward.

I took a step forward too and glared at him.

"I said," I paused. "YOU. GUYS. ARE. COWARDS!"

"Okay, that's it," The sophomore said as he pushed me backwards and my back hit one of the lockers. "Mind your own business, woman."

"Hey! Don't speak to her like that, you jerk!!" I heard Shawn say as he got up and punched the sophomore that pushed me.

The three sophomores ran away, scared.

"Are you okay?" Shawn asked, softly as he rubbed my back.

"Yeah," I nodded. "Those locks hurt though."

Shawn chuckled as he suggested that both of us go to the school nurse.

"Yep, sure. You need some band-aids, anyway," I said.

As I was about to walk, lifted me off the floor and carried me.

"Um, Shawn?" I asked.

"Hm?" He hummed.

"What are you doing?" I asked.

"Carrying you," He said in a 'duh' tone. I giggled as he smiled.

"I can walk, you know," I said.

"Yeah, I know," He smiled. "This is one of my ways to say thank you to my night in shining armor."

"Do you do this to all the girls?" I asked, jokingly.

"I would, but girls don't often save boys so I can't," He played along.

I pushed up his glasses to the bridge of his nose. His eyes turned into green as he looked at me.

"You're pretty, you know," He said, tilting his head to the side as he adjusted the way he was carrying me.

"Huh?" I asked.

"Oh, uh, I-- uhhhh...." His cheeks turned red as he avoided to look at me.

"You think I'm pretty?" I teased.

"Well, um, yeah," He said, smiling a little. "Beautiful, actually."

"Oh, wow, um, thank you," It was my turn to blush.

"Look, this may be off topic but.... can we y'know.... get to know each other better? I really want to be with you, but I think we should start off as friends," He asked.

"Yeah. that'll be great, you seem like a great guy, Shawn," I said.

"Heh... Thanks," He said. "And you seem like an amazing girl... umm.."

"Vanessa," I laughed, realizing that he still didn't know my name.

"Well.. Vanessa," He said, giggling. "Woah, it suits you. You do look like a Vanessa."

I giggled at his statement.

"Thanks," I said. "Nice name too. You look like a Shawn."

He shook his head in amusement as I laughed.
