Leonard watched as you slept peacefully in his arms, your head was on his chest. He kissed your forehead and brushed the hair out of your eyes. He whispered in your ears, about how he loved you, how he loved the way you connected with his daughter and how he wanted to spend the rest of his life with you. You woke and snuggled deeper into his arms. "Morning, love." His raspy voice sent shivers through you. "Morning, Leonard." It was just a normal morning to you, little did either of you know it was all about to change.
The ship was under attack, no one knew what had happened one minute they were in neutral territory, the next the ship was being fired upon. Sulu managed to pilot the ship out of the blast radius and the crew were catching their collective breath, when Spock had reported that a supply store had been badly hit. Bones recognised the number as the one you had entered before the attack, with a shout of "That's were Y/N went." He and several members of the crew had raced to where you were. When they entered they saw the growing pool of blood, Leonard made a strangled noise in the back of his throat. He carried you non-too gently to the med bay.
Leonard felt powerless as he watched you bleed out on the table, he was trying to save you. He was trying so hard to stop the bleeding and to save you. He knew he may not be able to save you, but he wanted to. God, he wanted to save you. The beeping of your heart monitor stopped, and you began to flatline. "Come on. Come on. Love, don't do this to me." He continued to bring you back. "Love, stay with me, come on." There was nothing he could do. He pronounced you dead, with tears in his eyes. The nurses stood and watched as the doctor fell apart at your death. Jim had entered, after they had all cleaned up and left the room. Leonard was still there staring at your sheet covered body. "I'm sorry, Bones." Jim croaked out he had seen you as a sister and had loved teasing you about your relationship with the doctor.
He listened to the recording again, the recording you had sent on the last away mission you had been on. You had been separated from the group and had to call the Enterprise. He loved the way it had captured your voice. He loved hearing your voice, a voice he would never hear again. "But if anyone asks I'm okay."
