Q paced his lab nervously, he turned the ring box over and over with his long fingers. He was hoping you would say yes but he wanted to ask your brother for his blessing first. He knew that you opposed the whole asking for permission for a decision that was ultimately yours. But Q wanted to ask your brother first, he was a traditionalist in some ways but really it was his British politeness taking over. "Q?" Q jumped violently at Bond's silent entry, he dropped the velvet box it rolled over and landed at Bond's feet. James picked it up and opened it. The ring glittered in the low light. The band was twisted gold and silver. There were three small diamonds arranged in a triangle pattern, two on the base and one on the top. The diamonds were clustered by a tear drop cut emerald. Q drew in a tight breath and his heart thumped painfully against his chest.
"I...uh...I wanted to ask you for your blessing not permission as your sister doesn't really like that. I wanted to ask you as I um...I wanted to be sort of traditional. I also really want your blessing, I want to do this right."
"Q." James cut across Q's rambling. "What are you trying to ask me, Q?" Q swallowed the lump in his throat, he ran a shaky hand through his hair. "I want to ask your blessing to ask your sister to marry me?" James took a breath and looked back down at the ring glittering back at him. He glanced back at the terrified look on Q's face. "Yes." Q's jaw practically dropped, "What?"
"Yes, you have my blessing. But she gets final say. She is the one getting the ring after all." James snapped the velvet box closed and handed over to Q. "You have made her very happy but if you hurt her, I will hurt you." Q smiled at James' comment. "Thank you, Bond."
"James. We are going to be family, you can call me, James. But at work maybe stick to Bond." Q smiled. "Thank you, James." Bond smiled and clapped Q on the back. "You'll do great."
Q paced the apartment you shared the small dinner, he had cooked ready and waiting for the pair of you. The velvet box hidden in his pocket. The cats looked unimpressed at Q, but then they always looked like that. The door clicked open and you were blown in buffeted by the wind. You both worked at MI6, but you were late home due to a debriefing. You entered the room and draped your coat over a chair. The cats looked up at you but didn't flinch. You noticed the dinner and Q looking nervously at you. "Everything alright, Q?" He nodded. "Let's have dinner." You shook your head at Q's odd behaviour figuring you would ask him about it after dinner.
After dinner and after Q had cleaned up, he had insisted. Q walked over to where you were staring out of the window at the rain. "I have a question for you." You turned to face Q. "You have made my life better in so many ways. I love you. I love the way you look at me in the mornings, I love how you take everything in stride and float over every obstacle you have ever faced. I love how you work hard and how you fight like mad for your family. I love you." He got down on one knee as he was speaking. The ring sparkled in the low light once again and the rain spattered window reflected the jewel. You gasped at the sight at the ring. "Y/N Bond, will you marry me?" Your breathy, yes was the best thing Q had heard all day.
