Even after everyone had gone home and the sun had gone down Jace couldnt sleep with the thought of the dirty book in the drawer with the keys. Why had it just appeared?

Nothing came to mind, and Jace tried to convince himself just to go to sleep, Clary had been asleep for nearly an hour already and Charlotte had slept even longer, but the mystery of the book haunted him.

Finally he just got up to get the book, something that seemed unneeded, and maybe it was just unwanted and someone had left it there knowing that as far as the Herondales went back their love and appriciation of books would keep it read and taken care of. Although that idea made absolutly no sense. If you wanted to get rid of something you would just throw it away.

Jace made his way down the stairs when he heard Little Lottie cry, turning back and racing to the nursery before she woke Clary, who he knew had had some hard days and needed the sleep, and took the baby in his arms.

"You really need to start sleeping more," he looked back at his own gold eyes, eyes that even when she had been born were crazily gold instead of blue like every other newborns. "Were my eyes like yours? I almost wish someone had kept track."

Laying with Charlotte he could almost forget the book, but not quite. She fell asleep as quickly as she had woken up and he set her down to rest again praying to the Angel she wouldnt wake while he was getting the book.

He practically threw himself down the stairs like a fangirl running into a book store and grabbed the book.

It was dusty but when he looked at it he saw that it wasnt actually worn down like an old book should be, it looked his age.

He groaned at the dust but wiped it away and saw runes drawn on the cover, they were runes of birth and protection of a young child, even a faint outline of a bird although he couldnt make out more than its wing it looked almost like a heron. Maybe thats why it was left there, they thought it belonged to us..? It made more sense, but not much when he found it had a keyhole.

He had no pockets in his black pajama pants and therfore no stele so he shoved the book in the drawer and walked back to the bedroom, it wasnt much information but it was giving him enough to fall asleep and, besides, he was tired.

~~~okay so i left at least five hints in that chapter there.... hope you found them :) maybe two readherrings... :) or more..... ~~~
