~~~ive written this chapter about a million times but i feel like i just never do it any justice... but finally i think ive maybe got it~~~
Even through the baby wailing Clary slept- she was so so so tired. Her bones and muscles ached even while asleep. No rune could fix this- sure there are runes to give you added energy yet that didnt mean that you never had to get sleep.
Although Clary was horribly tired Jace was still able to get up and find the baby. It wasnt like he hadn't been helping Clary before but he still felt as though he hadn't been aiding her at all in the process of having the baby.
He had been there during the entire pregnancy, the actual birth (which was terribly gross), and up until now.
Soon he would have to go back to work for the Clave and manage to help Clary with the baby at the same time.
I'm a shadowhunter, he reminds himself, this is what we  do.
Something in seeing the sleeping child settles his feelings- this is a face he's seen a million times. How could he not being doing enough to help Clary with the baby yet still see this face inbedded in his dreams?
She had stopped crying- that was a lot like many shadowhunter children. Even at a young age they knew there wasnt much for them to cry about. When they do cry they stop quickly.
Jace scoops her up then quickly changes her. (again= the worst part about children)
He sits with the baby in the old rocking chair- it was in the room before he and Clary had made it into a nursery. He tried to imagine past family members sitting here while rocking their baby.
Would Stephen have done this for him?
"I haven't told you a story in a long time," Jace whispered to the baby as if she would answer.
He watched her perfect gold eyes; she seemed to watch him when he spoke.
As he began to watch her she started to grow restless and squirm again- sticking her fingers in her mouth as she waited for more.
Maybe Jace just really had to get it off his chest- maybe he just had to let her know where she has come from.
"I'm not much of a story teller- I think Uncle Simon tells stories about nerd things a lot. Please dont be the kid who actually cares about some Java guy, okay?- anyways. Maybe about the Herondales...?"
But how much could he really tell her? Even if she didnt remember what he said he still felt like it was lying to her to tell her something that was untrue.
He heard light snoring from the other room.
"How about you mother, shes a great topic. Well, i guess you'd never know what it feels like to be a guy who knows her. Everything about her just glows- her attitude and aura and just how you want to be with her. She's so kind and fun but shes not too goodie-goodie. and shes just so strong, she wasnt born a shadowhunter. She just got into it- wow, was it really 9 years ago?- anyways; thats not a very long time. She just makes things great. She saved the world from her crazy brother. Wait- i forgot that you dont have any real aunts or uncles... Sorry about that. Your mom killed him. Not that you would want him as a babysitter; although sometimes i do think that he could've been a great guy if he wasnt half-demon, crazy, a bit addicted to insest. By the way if you ever have a brother he will not be named Jonathan. There's too many of those in our family now. Maybe something else. Not that your mom and i plan on more kids. But i like you- really i do. And last night was halarious when you almost threw up on Uncle Simon... next time dont aim for the towel. Go straight for the collar of his shirt, you know i could train you to be as strong as your mother. i am the one who trained her."
Now he was just rambling- but Charlotte loved it.
Not a word made any sense other than 'Clary'- she had already begun to associate that with her mother. Then 'Jace' was the man that was holding her.
There's some people you just dont forget.
