When the period ended I grabbed my things and ran to ladies' room as soon as I could knowing Livia was already dying to interrogate me. Thankfully Ms Shaw interrupted Alec before he could continue and he took a seat right beside me. I could feel is gaze on me the whole period.
I needed to wash my face. God, I thought this chapter of my life was over when Mark moved away. But now Alec is here. Or revenge.
"Maia." I looked at Livia in mirror as I cleaned my face.
"is he really?" she asked.
"Mark's Alec" I confirmed.
"Mark your...?"
"Mark my!" I nodded gravely
"Alec who is his...?" her eyes went wide again. She was somehow hoping she might be wrong. I was hoping Aston Kutcher to appear and tell me I was being punked.
"Alec who is his!"
"I'll always remember you girl. Make sure to leave me all your paintings in your will"
That's concern of a best friend every one. She and I are best friends for as long as I could remember. Her dad and mine work together in same hospital so we spent our childhood playing in hospital's childcare together. It was just us two until she became friends with his guy Andrew who was her Romeo in middle school. I mean literally, they were in a play together. Then he and his friend Parker started hanging around and we all became best friends.
"you need to face him eventually" she took my shoulder to say that. Trying to get her point across me.
"what I need is reinforcements. Call Parker and I'll tell Andrew in next class. We need to be ready for whatever's to come"
"I think you're overreacting. What did Mark told you about him?" she asked and smiled sweetly. She keeps forgetting that her smile only works with boys
"Clever Livia. Mark is still a forbidden subject. This changes nothing" I said rolling my eyes. She never run out of these tactics even though I always catch them.
Before she could object or whine I rushed out of washroom and walked towards my next class. English.
As soon as I entered Andrew tackled me with a bear hug.
"I missed you Pooki" he said enthusiastically.
"I saw you last night but you will miss me forever if you don't let go" I huffed. Completely out of breath.
Just as he let go of me I stumbled back. I would've tripped but a pair of hands grabbed my waist steadying me.
I looked over my shoulder and saw the only man I am trying to avoid so badly.
"hello Maia" he smiled like a devil. Had he gotten more attractive? I mean there is no way I didn't noticed that jaw line before. Or noticed how sensual his eyes were. He was tempting as sin. But I needed to remember what he really was. Penance for my sins.
" hi. Um... I oh I have to go... so bye" I stuttered and dragged Andrew over to another end of class. As far away as possible.
"what was that about? Who was that?" Andrew asked as I start to hyperventilate.
"you remember Mark?"
"are you joking? Who could forget your golden boy?" ugh. I forgot Andrew only called Mark as my golden boy.
"yeah. That's Alec shade. His best friend. Remember he used to talk about him? Tell stories about him?" I asked nervously. I desperately wanted Andrew to understand the peril I am in.
