"Don't touch me, don't talk to me, matter of fact - don't even look at me, Sweet Pea, or I swear I will chain you to the top of that flag pole!" I snapped as I sat down next to the towering boy beside me.

The cool chains clinked against my skin as I flipped strands of short hair over my shoulder. The Jolly Green Giant beside me snorted, shaking his head before smirking down at me, "Sweets, you couldn't ignore me if you tried,"

It was my turn to snort, rolling my dark brown eyes, "How John Bender of you, Sweet Pea. Seriously, can't you come up with anything on your own? Besides, shouldn't I be saying that to you?"

He said nothing, only huffing in response as his head turned away from me, silence ensuing between the gang of Serpents. Ever since I met the skyscraper, he'd gotten under my skin. Every other Serpent I got along with just fine. But Sweet Pea had the innate ability to irritate me like no other. My sister, Toni, insisted it was because I was "attracted" to him but to me, I could only ever see him as a bully, an annoying pest. If it wasn't for the fact that Jughead had always been nothing but nice to me, I would accuse him of putting me next to Sweet Pea on purpose.

The next few hours were spent in a long stretch of silence until I was almost positive I heard Fangs' stomach grumble. Every Serpent's head turned down the line to look at him. He let out a sheepish laugh, pretending to gaze around in confusion as well.

"On that note, I think it's time we had a food break," Toni announced, struggling in her chains slightly before getting up.

"What? What do you mean? The protest-" Jughead started but Sweet Pea cut him off.

"-can't fill my stomach," he pointed out as he stood up, too, casting a long shadow over me as he glanced down at my smaller frame still sat on the ground, "How about you? You coming?"

Biting my lip, I stubbornly stayed silent, much to his chagrin. Letting out a huff of annoyance and muttering something inaudible under his breath, he followed after the others, leaving Jughead and myself as the last remaining Serpents. That is until FP showed up with burgers and eventually, the other Serpents returned.

A week passed after our failed protest and I hadn't talked to Sweet Pea since. In fact, I didn't plan to. All he ever did was annoy me anyway. I shook away the thoughts then as I headed to Betty's house. Ever since she began dating Juggie, I'd befriended the blonde Northsider. She wasn't like the rest - unlike others. She treated us like equals, not dirt. That went a long way with me, truth be told. However, even she had started to get on my case about Sweet Pea ever since meeting him at the Whyte Wrm a couple weeks back.

"Betty, I got your text. What's-" I started as I burst into the Cooper house, stopping mid-sentence once I finally glanced up from my phone, coming face-to-face with a couple of thugs and a very frightened-looking Alice, Betty, and Chic, "-up?"

"Okay, well you have your money. Now, go!" Alice was telling the two strangers.

"What're you talking about? I just got here," the man scoffed.

I could tell he wasn't the brightest crayon in the box. Betty glanced at me briefly, acknowledging my presence but the thugs didn't seem to take notice.

"And Riverdale's so much nicer than Centerville," the woman drawled, leaning back in an armchair, "And this house, I could get used to this house,"

"You said if we gave you the money, you'll leave," Chic said, standing up from the couch just as Alice put a hand on his arm to hold him back.

"Or what? You think you three can take us? Try it," she threatened.

I scoffed, finally making my presence known as I sauntered over to the group of them, "Oh, please. Let's make it four, shall we?"

The man only growled in response, flicking out a pocket knife, the blade glinting underneath the fluorescent lighting.

"Sit down - all of you," he demanded, directing the last part towards Chic, "Or I'll cut out your sister's eyes,"

Suddenly, the front door was thrown wide open by a booted foot. Alice gasped at the intrusion, the four of us spinning on our heels just as the familiar group of Serpents burst in, led by Jughead clad in his signature beanie. A smirk lit up my face as they strode inside, knives suddenly at the ready.

" You think you two can take all of us?" Betty asked innocently, making me cheer for my girl, "Try it,"

Let's just say, it didn't take long for those scumbags to get the message and leave. And after they did, I couldn't help but smirk up at Sweet Pea who I'd someone come to stand right next to. But as his eyes deep chocolate-brown eyes drifted down to my much smaller form, I was shocked by the sudden surge of confidence and...attraction that came over me. With no warning whatsoever, I reached up both hands, pressing into the shoulder of his worn, leather jacket and on my tip-toes, connected my lips to his cheek in a sweet kiss.

"Thanks for coming," I whispered against his skin before pulling away.

Imagine my surprise at the growing blush tinting his tan cheeks as he coughed, trying to cover it up.

"No problem." he muttered back, squaring his shoulders as he glanced away from me.

But as the Serpents retreated from the Cooper house, Sweet Pea in tow, I couldn't help but think that something had shifted between us. And maybe...maybe that wasn't such a bad thing.
