All I saw was darkness. Pitch-black darkness so well, dark, that I couldn't even tell if my eyes were open or not. The inside of the rucksack my head was currently stuck in smelled like feet and rotten potatoes. I crinkled my nose, trying to ignore the odoriferous scent. But sadly, ignoring that only made me focus on the ropes that chafed the delicate skin of the inside of my wrists. I sighed, feeling utterly helpless.

I shouldn't have gone out at night. And especially not near the water. But it had always called to me, beckoning me to it like a beacon - like I belonged there. Having an affinity with the sea was just something I'd always had. Since birth or so my mother, Ariel, said. I guess that was natural though when your mother was a mermaid.

Secretly, I'd wished as a child that I'd grow a tail, too. Maybe when I touched water. Mom hoped I would someday as well but I'd stayed defunct, never having ever been able to become a mermaid like her. We had a rocky relationship after that and I grew close to my father, Prince Eric, instead. He taught me everything about sailing, recounting stories of his travels to me as a youngster. It was just as well, too.

I didn't resemble mother at all. I'd inherited my dad's ebony hair, gray eyes, and outgoing attitude. My older sister, Melody, inherited more from mother - tail included. Maybe that's why she preferred her. The relationship with my mother aside, I'd been brought up as a Princess, accustomed to the finer things that Auradon had to offer. So I can't really say what possessed me to go out to the water after dark on that night.

All I knew was that because of that one choice, I was here now - tied to a chair in a room that smelled like fish and the sea. It was almost home-y. But I didn't dare fall into that way of thinking. Not when these people - whoever they were - had captured me from Auradon. Of course, they were from the Isle - that much I was certain of. No one in Auradon would even dare to attempt kidnapping me.

Not with King Triton for a grandfather, at least. I heard cheering all around me then and I tried to wriggle free. That could only mean one thing - their leader was here.

"Ah, men, what do you have for me? What was the loot tonight?" he shouted to them joyously, a thick Scottish accent tinging his words.

Suddenly, I was being unbound from the chair by several rough hands and shoved forward. I stumbled on the hem of my long dress and nearly slipped if it weren't for a pair of strong arms catching me. The sack was ripped off my head then and I was met with a pair of startling electric-blue eyes surrounded by a coating of guyliner. His tousled hair was a light brown, poking out from underneath a skewed worn, pirate hat. I sucked in a sharp breath, taken aback that someone so evil could be so beautiful. Plus the added effect of the musk mixed with sea spray wasn't really helping.

He must have noticed my discomfort because he grinned and released me. Taking a step back, he bowed and took off his hat with a flourish.

"I'm Harry, so of the incredibly infamous, Captain Hook," he told me, glancing up so I was once again forced to meet those astoundingly blue eyes, "Welcome to the Isle, princess."
