Kyle's POV
I couldn't stop smiling all day. It was practically the best day of my life. I had so much fun with Craig during classes and even during lunch breaks with Clyde and Tolkien. I never actually truly knew Craig the way I knew him now. I usually thought him as the lone wolf that does not want to include himself in various situations but now I see him as a funny and caring guy.
I couldn't stop thinking about the words that Craig said,
I'm just glad I have a friend like you
I smiled again replaying the same exact sentence in my head but was interrupted.
"Um... Earth to Broflovski?" Craig asked.
"Hmm.," I responded.
Craig smiled and said, "Looks like I'm not the only one whose head is in the clouds."
"No, you are. This is different since I was thinking." I said.
"No, it isn't. It's the same thing." Craig said.
"Nope, you need a brain to think," I stated.
"Well, now I'm pretty sure I'll survive a zombie apocalypse unlike you, Smartass," Craig said.
I couldn't help but laugh. Craig's imagination really has its wonders.
"Zombie apocalypse? Really?" I asked.
"Who knows? You know crazy shit happens at South Park." Craig stated.
"True," I admitted.
Craig smiled which made me realize how he smiled more often than he used to. His smile really shows the real Craig. The Craig that is caring, kind and brave. The Craig that is always there for you and always cheer you up.
His smile is something that I never want it to stop.
Finally, we arrived next to my house. I rang the doorbell and waited for my mother to open along with Craig.
Craig was really kind to wait with me for the door to open.
"So what were you thinking about?" Craig asked.
I looked at him and answered, "On the things that I'm going to do this weekend."
"Oh really. I figured it would be boring without me by your side." Craig said.
I admitted without thinking, "Yeah. Pretty much."
Suddenly I realized what I just said. Shit! I shouldn't have said that.
I was about to come up with sort of comeback or explanation but my mind was completely blank.
Craig laughed and admitted, "I was not expecting an honest answer."
"Well you know as your friend, I'm easing on the comebacks so your little brain would take a break," I said.
Craig flipped him off which made me burst into laughter.
Then the door opened revealing my mother.
"O my bubbila! How was school?" Mom asked.
"Great!" I responded with a smile.
"Oh hello, Craig. How are you?" She asked.
"Good. How are you, Mrs. Broflovski?" Craig asked kindly.
"I'm doing well, thank you." She said. "So Craig would you like to come over and sleep for the night?"
This caught me off-guard. I was so shocked and surprised at the same time. This is my overprotective Mom we're talking about. Why would she suddenly offer this to Craig? I mean she usually offers to Stan since he was my best friend but why to Craig? We just became real friends two weeks ago.
"Are you sure? I don't want to intrude." Craig asked.
"Nonsense. I admit that it's been a while since Kyle brought a friend over so I don't mind if Kyle had company." She said.
"Thank you Mrs. Broflovski. I'll have to ask my Mom about it." Craig said.
"Of course. Tell her to call me to give her answer." She said.
"Ok. Thanks again, Mrs. Broflovski." Craig said.
As Craig left quickly and Mom closed the door, I asked her,
"Mom, why did you invite him over?"
"I know it's too early but I'm taking this as an opportunity so we get to know him better." She answered.
"Are you sure, Mother? I don't want to burden you." I admitted.
"Look, sweetie, the reason I'm doing this is that I want you to be happy. I noticed how you spent your weekends alone feeling lonely. Ever since you became friends with Craig I have seen you smile so brightly. These past two weeks I noticed how happy you were every time you get home and it's been a while since I've seen you this happy. All I want is for you to be happy." She explained.
I couldn't help but hug Mom tightly, saying,
"You're the best mother in the world."
She smiled and hugged me back.
"Craig is a good friend, isn't he? I've been informed by Mrs. Tucker how you two walk home together laughing and smiling every day after school." She said.
"Yeah, he's a really good friend," I said.
As I said that, I realized that I wanted it to be more than that.
