Norm called a stop Tom,Lindsay we are about to
Jena and her Army. I'll send a rider out to inform
her. Only proper to let an Army know we are coming. Besides I need off this blame horse.
Heat is terrible should be cooler this time of year.

Norm I feel the same, don't know about Lindsay
my backside feels it. Not used to riding.

Yes I feel it too, goodness haven't ever seen the Waste Land before. This is horrid hot hard ground
almost like solid rock with pebbles and small stones. How does one survive here?

Norm stretched then squatted a few times.
It can be done Lindsay, knowing how to find
water is the hard part. Water can be found out
here. Got to look for small thorn trees. Look
like a dead tree with thorns no leaves or flowers
just thorns. That means water is close by.
Underground about five foot, if you can pull the
tree out of the hard pack. Easy digging, under
ground tanks all over and rivers.

Food that is hard, not much of any thing lives here.
If you have water you can make it to find food.
Well best be heading on, make the camp before
dark.

Lindsay climbed on her horse, Norm just how did your Father make it through the Waste Land?
I know most don't have proper maps of it.

He would of been the first to admit, it almost killed
him doing it. He said shear force got him through.
Nothing but the will to live. Just glad he didn't do
what he was ordered to do.

Lindsay smiled, rumor is he supposed to kill your
Mother, or something like that.

Well it was Dark Times like when the killing of
the ones, that could fix the machines. Least the simple ones. You know we went against that sealed
up the border. Built the towers all for not, even
Ohio finally broke and started killing those that
knew.

Well then the ones that new the Distant past were
tagged as criminals. The killing started again.
My Mother knew of such, just as I know my Father
was tasked with finding her. Tracker he was, then
he found her and my Grandfather.

Strange thing was, he didn't even try and kill her.
He warned her and my Grandfather least tried to
warn him. He shot at Norm my Father, well things
went bad. My Father defending himself ending up
killing my Grandfather.

Mother told me she tried to stop her father. Not
blaming Norm in the least. Well he stayed on
about three years. The rest is common knowledge.

Look Jena has rode out to meet us. Father so good to see you. Tom, Lindsay and you also. Camp is only a mile away.  I have a plan to get us moving
again. I'll need the border units.

Jena dear, you won't need them lets talk on this
later. After we get to camp relax on this for now.
Please I am tired I want to eat not be on this horse!

Tom nodded yes I agree, have a meal discus it after
we eat. Jena I think you will be pleased.

Jena turned her horse, fine camp is this way.
Salt Pork and beans is what we'll have. I eat just
the same as the Army. One ration of ale.

Lindsay laughed as a good commander should.
That way you know how far they can travel.
Lead the way we shall follow.

Ben called a stop, his forward scouts were returning. He felt uneasy all reports said Atlanta
was under attack or near attack. Least Talladega
Post said they were, he wasn't so far north that
some rear elements should be seen.

Sir some movement near Dawsonville, looks like
its  light Infantry. Three maybe four Companies.
They didn't see nor hear us. Headed south towards
Atlanta Sir.

Chad will you please stop calling me Sir, I brought you along because I trust you. What do you recommend?

Well, Ben think we just keep moving way we planned. Meet back up with the bunch east of Rome. Don't think it was more than normal troop
movements. Both routes will be scouted.

Well reckon we head on then, I think about the same once we meet up east of Rome I'll take an element back Talladega. Meet the main Army.
Chad you push on, think main route for now will
be Rome. Unless you send a message other wise.

Chad shifted some in his saddle Ben, Sarna will
beat me near death I get you killed. This is enemy territory, don't want you riding off alone.

Chad I said an element not by myself. Jeez getting
like Sarna I am a grown man.

Ben, I fear her when it comes to you. In fact she about told me I was dead meat, to my face.

Damn can't win can I , so how many is enough?

Least two Rangers all I ask. I am covered Sarna is
happy.

I've decided I can make better time alone. So
unless I change my mind I go alone. No more
said on this. Chad send another bunch out.

Already done they leave in a few minutes.
Might as well get off that horse take a break.

Jena stood now tell me, I've waited long enough.
What can I do? The Carolina's have waited long enough! Sarna needs us to stick to our plan!

Norm nodded Tom it was your idea, tell her.

Jena tomorrow no later than midday, ten mounted
Infantry Companies each with one Cav Troop.
Plus one battery of cannon each company.
Thirty cannon Jena over a thousand Infantry
Full Cav Troops thousand of those.

They crossed at Gallopolis another Regiment
of Cav crossed three days ago Steubenville.
They should arrive close to midday. Another
ten thousand in Cav. Plus what you have already
you will have a good force to head out with.

Norm looked at Jena I don't think you will need
these border soldiers do you Jena?

No Father I think I'm larger than when I left.
That settles it I leave in two days.

Lindsay smiled Jena Tom didn't tell you all of
it. This is all Ohio can afford to give you.
Our Armies must protect its home land first.
I am sorry, but this we must do. York is under
control sense the forces chased you out.

They have promised to move South into Virginia.
Attack from the rear. That they can't start till
the spring. Let Sarna know this. Its been a long
day think we all should rest. Norm, Tom we leave

Yes Norm said you two leave please I wish to
talk to Jena alone before I retire. Jena dear,
I can do nothing more than what I've managed.
Those two are good people mean well.
They don't understand, you were pushed home
our Army has never been done that way.

Jena move fast get to Sarna your combined Army
might prevail. If not I fear all is lost.

Jena nodded, not all people understand War nor
what may come. I'll not be pushed home again.
