Sarna snuggled in close to Ben as usual. Garret sat across from them tankard in hand on the floor. Liz leaned back in the rocking chair. Jacob sat on a few blankets near Liz. Ben, you can start Louse, has left
Lana has duty. Ben looked at the book, opened it in a spot not marked. Those marked they had read.

Let me read, just a little ahead, then I'll start. Ok.

Hi, all, I want ta talk about, well um, an oddity I seen. This won't take over, long it might be a bit, boring. This thin well, best I can splain it. Hell, I'll just spit it out! Myself and this feller name was Cash,
he showed me. Underground Folks strange place, deep into the ground. Lan sakes took near two hours a gitten to it. I know Common, get on track!

Well, Colorado ways, folks before she was cut up in the border wars. This place folks had lectricy it got light as ya walked deeper inta it. Steel doors, not a speck a rust on them. Moved like they weighed nothin. Oh, the doors must of been ten inches thick!

Old Cash, now he said his Pa called them blast doors
Must have one, hell, a cannon. Needin doors that blame thick. Strange thin folks, the air smelled clean, not damp and stuffy. For as deep down as we were, figured air be a little bad. Cash opened a smaller door, light was more red than clear or white. Folks Cash pointed, my, goodness why, folks it was silver and white. Tall folks looked like, it had, best way ta put it. Fletching like an arrow has. Shape was like a long cylinder, pointed at the top. Must of been near forty feet if not taller. Cash said, I still get the chills and amazed, lookin at that!

Looks over at Cash, can I get closer? Sure he says, Ranger, ya don't mind I'll hang back here. That just makes my skin walk. I wave it off, make my way ta it. I could hear a low buzzing as I gots closer. The louder it got, folks I felt this way once before York ways. Skin felt like it was crawlin, nervous, light-headed queazy. I made my mind up, I kept going.

Really loud click, place lit up, my gosh like daylight folks! I reach over touch, the oddity cool steel, long arms were hooked ta it stretching to the walls. Big letters it said, U.S. AIR FORCE. I am a thinkin what in Sam White Hell! Is this? Air force what is that?
I shouts Cash! I see a walkway at the top of this thin.
Can we gets ta it? Yesum, Ranger, he yelled back. Need ta come back here, I'll show ya the way.

Ranger, he asked, get the creepy crawlies? I nodded felt those once before like ta kill me. He motioned me ta follow. He opened smaller door, spiral steps folks straight up, like a lighthouse. Musta took ten minutes, ta climb up. Door was open at the top, lan sakes folks walkway! Ya could look down through it!
I haves about three uncontrolled fears, folks snakes, high places and snakes! I knows only two, snakes they are a powerful fear, they make two! I says Cash is it safe ta walk on? He nods go on!

Hi takes a deep breathe steps out, it creaked somethin terrible. Took another step not near as bad. Now, mind ya, folks I was moving slow gripping the handrail like white knuckle grip! That floor gave way, grip alone hold me up. Side of that oddity was open, I looks in, lot a red, green, blue, yellow rope string lookin stuff hooked up to these boards inside.
Top of it was open too, I climb this ladder up ta it.
My gosh couldn't hardly let go, the rungs ta climb it!

Dear, me, I looks in, folks it had six smaller thins in it, looked like bullets. That is when it hits me, I am a thinkin this is a weapon! Some kind of blame weapon! How it works, I don't know! Why is it underground? If it needs protecting that much! Why it has to be scary deadly! I gets back ta Cash, anythin else ta see? Yesum couple more thins follow me.

I ask Cash they any more of those? He tells me maybe two more he knows about. Maybe hour away north and south of here. Folks two more if they six smaller thins like bullets, then that makes eighteen places they could fire at! Ifin I am thinkin right.

Next place just a room chairs with wheels on them.
Funny looking boxes what looks like a thin board with letters on it, I push on one it moves. More of that string or rope stuff. Little sign says Fear only if the keys need turned. I shrug, say Cash I don't get the sign. He smiled I don't myself. Last place is deeper down not near as much light long looking tubular
openin with tracks, like in DC, I says a train came through here. He tells me faster way gettin out, room moves up, takes ta the top. I says elevator.
He nods some don't use that word. I says they ain't been around farms or warehouses. Sorry folks gots ta run, Beth is shoutin about my trainin Liz on the pistol, lan sakes! Girl is eleven, can shoot better than myself.  Till next time folks.

Liz smiled, I have heard that story more times than I can remember. Still, love to hear it, my Dad could tell it even better speaking it. Ben, looked at Liz, so Common, was your dad? Yes, heard from Norm or junior as I call him, what dad called him most times. That he died, glad you all are enjoying those. Norm said when he heard, the story sounded like a missile, enter Continental Ballistic one. Not sure what that is.

Dad was already dead when you found him? Yes, Liz, I'm sorry he was, kept his compass you want it? No need junior promised a copy of that book.
Keep the compass, Ben, you all enjoy those stories.
Sarna, that team has been sent out, if no one has told you. I'll be away for a while tomorrow. Took one of those liberated rifles and cartridges. I'm going to try and figure it out. Might be able to arm a few with those. So night all, been a long couple days. Sarna nodded good night, rest best get to our tents or barn where ever you set camp get some rest.

Liz rushed back in, I forgot what my second mission is. Sarna looked at her, Liz I think that one has reason, even I shouldn't know. That's why you haven't said any thing. Yes, Sarna, I was told only to tell you when the time was right. Sarna nodded, is, the time right now? Liz shook her head, no, not really. Then wait till then, night Liz. Yes, bye, your leave.
