Chapter Ten

"She got you good smarty pants," Jayden beamed.

Amused, he said, "My apologies. In any case, I don't think there is any major problem with you but I would like to an eye on you for the day. Just in case,"

"Funny. If you think I would sit in this creepy 4 white-walled room quietly for the next 24 hours, the joke is on you," Amelia scoffed as she started pulling the IV out from her veins.

"Woah woah, hold it. Hold it," Alex said

" It's okay. I'll keep an eye on her in my house," Lucian smirked.

"On the stone, cold floor?" she uttered quietly as she rolled her eyes

"You let HER sleep on the floor?" Alex mused, helping Amelia with the tangled IV even though he had no idea how in the world could she have removed in such a way that it could have possibly tangled.

"It wasn't part of the plan," Lucian muttered under his breath, joining Alex in detangling the IV.

"Say what?" Alex jested

"Oh, shut up," Lucian groaned. " Clear the road, Jay. I don't want any surprises like the last time," he ordered Jayden through their mind link.

"Oopsie oopsie, ladies! Duty Call!'' Jayden chirped before disappearing behind the door.

"Is he always this cheerful?" Amelia wondered out loud.

"You meant noisy," Lucian retorted

"Annoying," Alex chipped in.

They gave each other a friendly fist punch with a boyish grin on their face.

"Katherina, do you mind helping Amelia out for a moment? I need to speak to Lucian just for a minute," Alex asked as he ushered Lucian out of the room.

Lucian gave a friendly punch on Alex's shoulder but he groaned in pain, "Dude, vampire strength!"

"Don't be a whiny wimp!" Lucian teased, totally comfortable with him. "What's up?"

"I heard the news that she's your mate,"

"Where have you heard that from?" Lucian snapped, all the friendliness flew out of the window. Lucian trusted Alex with this information but the fact that he knew before Lucian told him was very dangerous for Amelia and he would never put Amelia at such risk. "Is that how the lowly vampire knew?" he silently thought.

"Don't worry. Jayden was the one who told me. There wasn't any rumour on Amelia. Your vampires are more loyal than you ever gave them credit for," he automatically answered, reading his mind like an open book.

"I'm fried, dude. My whole brain is so messed up with all the constant thoughts of her in danger," he sighed as he paced restlessly. "And here I thought it would all be sexy and fun once I found her,"

"Has my medical expertise expanded? Am I your shrink as well as your doctor?" Alex grinned, enjoying himself in his friend's despair.

"Oh, shut up idiot," Lucian huffed and puffed.

"Oh, about the sexy time ... ," Alex momentarily trailed off and continued, " You do realize that the mate bond is taking a toll on her right? "

"What do you mean? She's not of age yet,"

"Think again, Lucian. All the jealousy of Katherina and her fainting when you went to the feeder's room,"

Lucian's eyebrow furrowed, "I don't understand. She should probably feel just a slight difference in her emotions. Nothing drastic,"

"I don't know. Maybe it's because she is a human," Alex shrugged. "But, the main point is that you can't feed on humans, Lucian"

"I'll just go with blood bags,"

"Don't lie to yourself. Both you and I know that stale blood wouldn't be much help to your body. You need to feed on he-," Alex was cut short as Lucian said, "No. I will not feed on her,"

"Lucian...," His friend warned, disapproved of this action but he knew deep down that nothing will change his friend's mind.

"No. Can you imagine what would her people do to her? And I know her lil hunter buddies means a lot to her and I'm not about to take that away from her" Lucian insisted.

"It would still be the same when they find out that she is your mate," Alex pointed out, slumping against the wall.

"Why do you think I'm putting her next to me as my bodyguard?" Lucian rolled his eyes. "I'll get going now. I have a lil hot-headed huntress to entertain,"

"Lucian! The blood bag is only a temporary fix!" Alex reprimanded, clearly frustrated and worried with his best friend being so couldn't care less on such an important matter.

"It's still a fix! " Lucian waved goodbye.

"I'll let you rest on my bed since you insisted, Miss Amelia" Lucian smirked as he helped her into the house.

"Stay away, pervert,"

"I know you want it," he smiled slyly.

Amelia suddenly stopped in her tracks. "You know what .. " Her voice dropped into a seductive tone.

"Oh god. That tone means trouble," he internally cursed, trying to keep his pants in check.

"There is something that I truly want right now," Amelia's lips quirked up a little as she slowly inched closer to Lucian.

Deep in his mind, he knew that this entire thing is just another game to her and yet he couldn't help but to expect more.

To his very own surprise, he figured that the game would end before she came into his arm's length but 

Oh no, it didn't. 

With her body pressed against his, it was not a wonder that his breath hitched. She slowly wrapped her arms around his waist as if she was engulfing him into a hug while she kept her eye contact with him.

If this was what Alex was warning him, he wouldn't mind this at all.

Not at all.
