Chapter Thirteen

Was it a lil too much for him to hope that she might be at the door to welcome him back?

Well, she was there.

Except, he was not greeted with warm words but with a cold and unbelievable sharp katsiya centimeters away from his throat.

"Miss, let me remind you that your job is to protect me, not the other way around," he said, slowly pushing the dagger away with his fingertip.

Frustrated, she yelled, "Exactly! WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN!"

"Ooooooooo, did I just detect the tone of concern in your voice?" Lucian teased, moving pass Amelia and into the hall.

"Ugghhh,'' she cried out in frustration. "This might come as a joke to you but a hunter always, always takes his or her job very seriously and that includes protect that lame ass of yours,"

"Don't worry, me and my lame ass just took a walk and we are perfectly safe," he said, sending a knowingly look. " On a second thought, we might actually need some protection from you. "

Amelia came prepared for her mission with her katsiya by her side, two small daggers tucked on each of her legs and vials of powdered escare. She didn't know what to expect since he did not specify the location but it seemed to her that over preparing at this point wouldn't bring any harm considering that they were attacked less than a week that she was left in charge.

"I cannot. I cannot believe that you came with so many sharp looking objects dangling all over you! " he laughed out loud.

Amelia's pride took a huge blow. She gritted her teeth and muttered dangerously, "I swear to God that I will KILL you one day," She wanted to be taken seriously as a real protector and yet, it was just yet another of his many tricks in his sleeves. Passersby kept staring at her, whispering to each other in hushed voices. Amelia couldn't blame them. Afterall, she was dressed up as if she is in some major cosplay competition in the middle of a market filled with humans.

"Get in line, lil hunter," he snickered. "Is that a spring onion, mam?"

"No, handsome. It is a leek but it is relatively the same," the old lady smiled as she held a bag of leeks. "Free for such a handsome face,"

"My, my. Thank you,"

"Why in the world is a vampire lord shopping for vegetables?" she asked in hushed tone. "And, can you stop using that damn face?"

"Our maid took the afternoon off so she asked me to get some .. " His voice trailed off as he dug out a piece of crumpled paper, "Spinach, spring onion, garlic. Oh garlic. Ew ," He scrunched up his nose in disgust.

Our.

That definitely made her smile internally.

"Omg! Does garlic work??"

"Against us? You wish. It just .. smells," he scrunched his nose again.

"Mhmm... " Amelia sneakily grabbed the garlic from the grocery stall run by the old lady and shoved it right to Lucian's face.

"Hey! Hey!" Lucian warned with a playful tone as he continued to dodge Amelia's garlic smelling fist.

"Maybe the legend is true!" Amelia was now hyped up, jumping to reach his height and attempting to shove the garlic right at his nose.

"Why, you.. " Lucian grabbed her wrist, turning her around, encasing her between his powerful arm and his body. With his other hand, he grabbed the Amelia's hand with the garlic and carefully forcing it near her own nose without harming her.

"No! Get it away from me," She shrieked, turning left and right to avoid the garlic. She held her breath as she tried to break free from him but he was way too strong and her position didn't exactly give her any advantage either.

"Judging by your muffled voice, I'm pretty sure you're saying somewhere between the lines of Let me go before I cut off your balls and hands off before you boil my eyeballs away," he mimicked Amelia supposedly threatening voice.

She muffled more as she stared daggers right into his eyes. However, Lucian just find it funnier and he can't help but to torture her more with that foul vegetable.

"Young love, young love. So in love," the old lady smiled as she looked at the pair adoringly.

"WE ARE NOT!" she denied hastily.

At the same time, Lucian said, "Why, Thank you! "

Caught in their very own bright and sunshine mode, they failed to realize that there was another set of eyes that were watching their every move.
