Chapter Seventeen

"The good part of this story he will always protect you considering he can't live without you. According to the rumors....the very least," her inner voice echoed in her mind.

"Hellooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, how about the ambush-with-a-crazy-amount-of-vampires, the-whole-pounding-crazy-headache-thingy, or the

your-own-people-trying-to-kill you?" As usual, the sarcastic part of herself countered.

"Right. The very least I don't have to worry about me being a lonely cat lady,"

"True,"

"See! 1 point for me!"

"Because you will probably be dead before you get to become a lonely cat lady,"

"Haha. Funny."

A few feet away, Lucian stared at her supposedly mate muttering incoherent

words, grunting and facepalming every once in a while, for the past hour. He gave her space to process all this information but she was taking it pretty well in his opinion. Probably.

"Oh God," she groaned again

"Okay, this has gone far too long enough, lil hunter," Lucian finally stepping in, offering a mug of hot chocolate as a somewhat peace offering.

Amelia stared at the mug of hot chocolate for a good 20 second before hesitantly taking it.

"What? No snarky comments, lil hunter?" Lucian taunted.

Silence.

"Okaaay, shoot. I know you must have questions for me," Lucian said after the moment of silence.

"You said I wasn't," she said as she kept on rubbing her thumb against the wall of the mug with her eyes fixated on it.

"To avoid this conversation. At least, for the time being,"

"How sure are you? Maybe you're mistaken,"

"It's impossible to be mistaken about this, Amelia,"

"How sure are you?" she insisted, finally looking away from the mug but still refusing to look at him even though she knew that he was fixated on her.

"The longer we live our heart beats slower and slower till it reaches a point where it barely beats like mine. It's hard to ignore the blood rushing through my heart for the very first time in a long time, making it beat more like a regular heart,"

"It happens when you suck someone dry anyways," she said in denial, rolling her eyes as well.

"Maybe for the adrenaline but our heart remains as still as it was. There are a couple of attractions but I highly doubt you want me to go there,"

Please go there.

"What is going to happen to Kelly?" Amelia changed the topic as she diverted her gaze out of the mansion's window.

"That snarky bitch? Depends on you. You can send her back to the association but she will definitely spill the beans on us or she can rot in the prison and no one will ever know," Lucian said so calmly as if he was just asking someone to pass the cereals to him.

"You can't just imprison her. They will notice it and if you have forgotten, we still have a very NEWLY made treaty,"

"I have all the power to do so and she broke it first. The treaty is easily broken as it was made, Amelia," He sighed as he explained all over again slowly as if he was speaking to a child.

"What will you have decided?". For the very first time in the past hour, her eyes met his, searching for answers in those jet black eyes of his.

"If it is up to me, she will be dead. It is for the best," he answered. There was no threat, no sorrow in his voice. It was a matter of fact. "If you are to be my queen, you have your say in this decision,"

Her fingers kept massaging her forehead, hoping for some relief from all this information pounding in her head. However, in the end, she couldn't decide but only delay the unformidable reality. "Just keep her in the dungeon for now," she sighed but quickly added, "Keep but don't hurt her. She is, after all, she is still my brethren,"

"Easily done," he simply nodded but he silently thought to himself, "Not that I promised to make her life comfortable after all that she has done to you."

"What's next?" she asked.
