Chapter Fourteen
"Is that the mushroom that we need?" Lucian asked.
"No idea," she snapped, refusing to say anything more than she needed to.
"How bout those?"
"God knows,"
"Are you going to stay mad at me?" he continued to test her patience.
"What do you think?" she retorted as she rolled her eyes.
"Alright, alright. We will never be finished here," He groaned, giving in to her.
"No shit, Sherlock," she taunted.
"How about you staying in that café right over there? You can watch my ass through that glass so you don't have to worry about your hunter duties while I finish up here," he suggested
"I'm supposed to be next to you for any immediate threats,"
"It's in the middle of the day and in a market full of humans. I highly doubt anything interesting will even pop out,"
Amelia thought of it through. It was true. Nobody in the right mind would launch any ambush here. Despite everything, every supernatural being respected the one and only rule which was never to alert the humans about their presence. It's going to bring all kind of troubles if it does happen.
" I guess why not," she agreed as an evil thought came across her mind.
"Alright, see you soon, lil hunter," he casually waved goodbye.
"Oh, I can't wait. Someone is about to have the embarrassment of the week," she whispered slyly as soon as he got off her earshot.
She smiled sweetly at Lucian from the café when he turned around to check on her as she pulled her smartphone out. It's not every day that the all and mighty lord Lucian goes out for grocery shopping. Amelia did an amazing job of taking the worst ever picture of him with vegetables poking out from his plastic bags. To top it off, she took it at such odd angles that even that greek god face of his wouldn't be much of help.
All of the sudden, someone pulled her back and covered her mouth. Her hunter instinct kicked in as she was about to flip her assailant over when her assailant said, "Stop it. I'm a hunter."
Amelia took a good look at her hunter tattoo which every hunter has to have.
"Why in the world would you attack a fellow hunter,"
"I didn't attack you. If I did, you would be dead by now. I merely covered your mouth before you alerted every single being in here," she said haughtily as she hid her hunter's mark on her wrist.
"What do you want?" Amelia's eyebrow furrowed. As much as she didn't want to admit, she was right. She was so into her picture taking mission that she totally ignored her very own surrounding and safety.
"Are you crazy? Why in the world are you so attached to one of the deadliest vampire lord? You do know who he is right? How old are you?" she asked.
"I'm not attached. I'm his bodyguard," she answered curtly. Judging by her tattoo, she knew that this hunter was way older and experienced than her. She didn't like her but she had to respect her. Well, if she can.
"Right. I remembered hearing something ridiculous like this. I guess it's not just a rumor. However, what's all the lovey-dovey act back then?"
"It's not what you think,"
"Explain it then,"
"He is just being friendly,"
"HA. Lucian the great being friendly? Who the hell are you fooling, young girl?" the hunter demanded, her eyes boring into Amelia's.
"I'm not a young girl. I'm a respected hunter. And, believe what you will but it is true. Have you seen him with Jayden or Alex? If you have not, it is you who is quick to judge and wrong about him," Amelia said firmly, not backing down either.
"Jayden? Jayden and Alex is like his brothers. They fought through wars together and swam in the blood of our brothers and sister for several hundred years together. And, who are you? The random girl who was assigned to him for a month?? Unless..... " her voice trailed off.
"What?" Amelia rolled her eyes. She was way too tired to deal with this crap right now.
"You are his mate," the elder hunter's voice dropped an octave as she swiftly bind Amelia's hand to her back.
Exasperated, Amelia cried out loud, "What the shit is wrong with you?"
"Keep it down," she whispered harshly into her ears as she tightens the bind.
"Your brain is going koo-koo, old lady. This joke isn't even funny at all," Amelia insulted, giving her an icy look.
"One way to find out, young girl. And I pray that I'm wrong for your sake, girl," she emphasized on the word girl as she knew that was the word that ticked Amelia off.
"Oh really? I can't wait to see your downfall and embarrassment of the century," Amelia dared her but the very small part of her that suspected the very same fact when she just arrived was becoming very anxious.
"It's impossible," she reminded herself
"Or my name will carven into history as the one who brings the almighty Lucian down," she snickered as she slowly pulled Amelia away from the café without raising suspicion. She brought Amelia to the secluded part of the town and into an even more suspicious dark alley.
"Are you going to murder me here? Cause this does looks like the perfect spot to carry out such a crime," Amelia tried to loosen up her binds but the knot that the hunter made was absolutely perfect, leaving no mistakes at all. She even knocked Amelia up with a bunch of drugs that made her slightly drowsy as an extra measure.
"Trust me, you wish it is," she said, pulling out a short katsiya hidden in her boots.
"Woah woah woah. What are you doing, old lady? This is no longer funny," Amelia tried to toughen up but she could feel her heart racing with that threat.
"It never was,"
