The next morning, I was determined to spend my day avoiding Percy. I met Piper and Thalia in Geography class but I didn’t seat on my usual seat between Thalia and Percy, so I sat on Piper’s seat instead and she sat on mine. We continued our project and I didn’t say a word to him throughout the entire class. When class was over, us three girls walked out of class before Percy could talk to me. Thalia walked me to my locker and I got my Science things.

Ugh. I have Science with Percy.

I entered the room and saw Percy was already in there. I ignored him once again until at one point during Science, where he leaned in closer and whispered, “Is everything okay?” I looked at him and smiled shyly, then nodded and turned my attention back to the teacher.

We didn’t speak again after that. Class went by fast and I walked away from Percy when it was over. I spent the rest of the day walking away from him and avoiding him. When I was at my locker at the end of the day, Luke came over to me.

“Hey Annie,”

“Luke, please go away,” I told him in the nicest way possible, but he didn’t leave.

“How’s Percy?” I glared at him.

How did he have the guts to ask me about Percy when he knew I was hurt?

I ignored him and walked away quickly. Thankfully, he didn’t bother to follow me. I bumped into Nico as I walked out the door.

“Annabeth! Percy has been looking for you for ages!”

“Well here I am,” I smiled at him.

“I guess I’ll tell you myself. So Percy’s birthday was back in August and he’s having a party next week at my place. A bit late, I know, but anyway, it would mean a lot to him if you came.” He winked at me and I blushed, did he not know about Percy and Calypso? I decided not to bring that subject up or else I would drown him in my tears.

“So can you make it? Piper and Thalia are invited as well,” I thought about it for a minute. If I didn’t go, I would probably regret it later, so why not? Going to his birthday party didn’t mean I had to talk to him, right?

“Yeah, I think I can make it,” I smiled at him.

“Great,” he said and then I walked back home. As much as I wanted to, I couldn’t miss work today since I already missed it yesterday because I was sick.

I knocked on the door and Percy opened right away. He was wearing his swimsuit and his hair was still wet so I guessed he had just come back from swim practice.

“Hey Annabeth,” He smiled at me and I looked down at the floor as I murmured ‘Hi’. I walked past him and went straight up to Tyson’s room.

Percy’s POV

Annabeth has been acting so weird latelyShe’s been avoiding me at school and now she just literally walked past me to Tyson’s room. At least Nico said she might go to the party and my mom agreed on having the party at Nico's.

I was excited but if Annabeth didn’t come, it would ruin the whole night, so I had to make sure she came.

She didn’t come back down from Tyson’s room when he was on his snack break, so the only time I saw her was when she was leaving.

“Annabeth,” She looked at me but then drifted her gaze away from me.

“Annabeth, have you been avoiding me?” She looked at her feet, so I took that as a Yes.

“Please, what did I do?” I asked her and she looked at her watch.

“I really should go, Percy,” I nodded sadly and opened the door for her.

Jackson, what did you do?
