Percy’s POV

“Dude what the hell? Why would you let her go like that? Go to prom with another guy? You’re mental,” Jason said after I told him and Nico about Annabeth.

“I told you I can’t go, I have the swimming competition!”

“So? Is that a reason for her to go with another guy? Seriously, what is going on in your head?” Nico pointed out. He did have a point, though.

“Well I didn’t want her to spend the night home alone while everyone else is having fun,”

“She can go alone, lots of girls do that. It’s better than her cheating on you, man,”

“What are you saying? Annabeth would never cheat on me, not after the way she left when all the Calypso drama happened. Besides, Connor is also my friend,”

“Well I heard he’s had a crush on that chick for ages, man. The one chance he got, he’s probably going to kiss her; make the move,” Jason said, wiggling his eyebrows like an idiot.

These guys called themselves my friends?

“Shut up, I can’t do anything now anyway.” I shrugged, starting to regret my choices.

“Yes, you can. Tell Connor to call it off cause you’re just not comfortable with the fact that your girlfriend is going to prom with someone else. Easy.”

“That’s just rude. It’s too late now.”

Nico stood up from the bleachers where we were having lunch and started pacing in front of me.

“Prom is in a few weeks only. You’re going to let her go with Connor but join in last minute, as a surprise. Then she wouldn’t be alone, she would have fun, and-“

“Connor might still kiss her,” Jason cut him off.

“Not if we keep our eyes on them for the whole night,”

“I like the way you think, di Angelo,” Jason nodded.

“We can even ask Piper and Thalia to keep their eyes on them too!”

“And Percy will come in at the end, as the hero that saves her day!”

“Hell yeas!” We fist-bumped each other. Maybe this plan would work.

The weeks passed really quickly. The school was going crazy with the preparations for the dance and I was training my butt off for the competition.

I wasn’t sleeping much and my whole body ached.

When the day of the competition finally came, I was ready.

“Good luck,” Said Annabeth, giving me a peck on the cheek.

“Thanks, Wise Girl. Have fun with Connor, but not too much,” I winked at her and we were off. She went to Piper’s to get ready with the girls and I had to meet with the swim team at the school.

I was wearing my lucky swim shorts with a blue shirt. My towel and things were in a small bag that I carried with me on the bus.

The competition was being held at a private school’s swimming pool and the place was effing huge.

I wasn’t that nervous for the first part since it was just competing with schools. Alex and me got second place for the first part so I started to doubt my skills and I thought I wouldn’t win the scholarship but I didn’t let my nerves get the worst of me.

I was going against Patrick Reacher, whom I knew from other swimming competitions, and he was really good. His school got the first place in the previous event.
