Annabeth’s POV

I was about to pay for my lunch in the cafeteria when someone jumped right in front of me.

“Gods, Connor, you’re gonna give me a heart attack.” I pushed him away so I could pay the lunch lady and then brought my tray to an empty table nearby.

I took a bite on my apple as he sat on the chair next to mine.

“What’s up, Chase?”

“Well, I guess most people would say ‘the sky’ but I’m gonna go with the sun,”

“You’re so childish, that joke is old,”

“You’re old,” I almost face-palmed myself after that awful comeback came out of my mouth.

“Is that your best comeback?” He laughed and I hit him on his arm.

“Ouch. The smart girl is strong,” He said as he rubbed his now red arm. I glared at him and he looked away, intimidated by my glare mwahahah.

“So I was wondering if you’d like to go get a drink today after school or something,”

“Ugh I have work, sorry. I wish I could skip it, though, I don’t even want to see him,” I could feel my cheeks heat up as I said that and I mentally face-palmed myself.

Did I say that out loud? Oops.

I was sure Connor knew who I was talking about but thankfully, he didn’t comment on it.

“So things aren’t exactly great between you guys, huh?” Wait never mind, he did comment on it.

“I guess not…”

“Hey, I have an idea. Maybe I could invite him to come over to my place so you wouldn’t get to see him,” I smiled at him and nodded. Maybe that could work, right? I really hoped it did cause I didn’t think I could avoid him any longer.

“Are you ever going to tell me what happened?”

“Not going to tell you, but I can show you,”

Connor looked at me with a puzzled look in his face as I took out my phone to show him the pictures.

His mouth literally dropped when he realized what he was seeing.

“I..I really don’t know what to say, I’m sorry.” I nodded and shrugged.

Then he just pulled me into a hug and I hugged him back. I really needed my friends in times like these, and I was so thankful to have this idiot by my side.

I was having a nice moment with Connor when the devil herself rose from the deepest part of Tartarus to ruin it.

“Oh My Gods! So you guys are like a thing now?” Calypso gasped as I rolled my eyes. Connor scratched his neck as he stood there awkwardly.

“Actually-“ I tried to reason with her but, as always, she wouldn’t listen.

“I should like totally tell Percy about this, I’m sure he’d be enlightened with the news!” She grinned deviously. I wanted to punch her right there and there. Instead, I maintained myself calm and walked up to her.

“Listen here, Calypso, I think you know perfectly well that I am not with Connor and you are just making things up because you want to tell Percy so you can keep him for yourself-“

“He’s not yours.”

She said, and laughed as I just stared at her, fists clenched.

“It’s alright if you’re shy, hun’. Just admit that it’s over between you guys, I mean, you won’t even say a word to him, and now you’re off with some guy’s twin.” She laughed again. Ugh. “Pathetic.”

I followed her with my gaze as she walked away to Percy’s table. My eyes locked with his for a moment and my face got red all of a sudden. I remembered Connor was still standing there awkwardly so I smiled at him to smooth things out, but he just stared blankly at me, as if thinking deeply about something.

“I’m not just ‘some guy’s twin’…” He said and I laughed at him.

I looked back at Percy’s table once again to see that Calypso was twirling her hair in front of him, acting all cute and stuff.

I couldn’t help but feel my heart break after all this.
