Chapter 14:
I Wish
For the last few years, my birthday wish has always been for my dad to come home. I've never told anyone this of course in the fear that if I did then it wouldn't come true. However, this year I feel like it's time to wish for something else. I know my dad will never come back and life has changed so much for me and my family, at this point, him coming back would ruin everything.
June 22nd is my favourite day of the year for one reason only; it's my birthday.
This birthday was a bit weird compared to my other birthdays, it was the first year where all of my usual birthday traditions were broken.
Every year I would wake up, open my presents with my family, visit my grandma and have dinner at my favourite restaurant.
Despite the lack of my usual traditions, this birthday felt special to me and was one of the best I have ever had. I've never had so many people wish me a happy birthday in my whole life but I should've expected it now that I'm part of the popular group and the girlfriend of the school's hottest boy.
Zac's girlfriend. It still doesn't feel real. It has almost been a month now and I am loving every minute of it. We've been on a few more dates and have had many dinners at one another's houses, his family are lovely. He's also met Lily, who absolutely adores him, I think she loves him more than I do. It's been perfect, he is perfect.
Surprisingly, I didn't see Zac on my birthday but he told me he was taking me on a birthday date tonight. Yet again he's given me no hints as to where we are going but he said I'll love it.
"Lola please don't go out tonight. I want you to read my bedtime story." Lily begs as she lays across my lap on the couch.
"I'm sorry Lil but Zac's taking me out for my birthday."
"Zaccy is coming?" She replies, her voice full of excitement.
Zaccy is the nickname that Lily had given Zac. Like I said, she is obsessed.
As I begin to laugh back at her, stroking her curly brown hair, the doorbell rings.
"Sounds like he is here now." My mum says.
Lily leaps up from the couch, running towards the door.
"ZACCY!" She shouts, jumping into his arms.
"Hey you!" He replies, holding her in his arms as he spins her around.
Seeing Zac with children feels like a dream.
"Hi beautiful." Zac says, placing Lily on the floor, walking over to kiss my cheek.
"Where are you two heading off to tonight then?" My mum questions, her voice engulfed with happiness.
