Chapter 39:
Anything's Possible
"You could wear this?" Sophie suggests, pulling out a red velvet, ruched dress from her wardrobe.
"That's the one Lola! It'll look amazing on you." Zara gushes, twirling the dress around from its hanger.
It has been less than ten hours since the presidential campaigns in the auditorium and normality was already returning.
"Give it to me." My arms stretch towards the dress like a baby begging for its bottle.
"Sophie, you have the most beautiful clothes." Zara says, still in awe of the dress.
"I save the best for my girls. Plus, we have something to celebrate which means only the best outfits are allowed." Sophie waves her finger at the both of us.
"Indeed." Zara says, grabbing her glass of champagne from Sophie's desk.
I grab mine too, watching the bubbles bounce off of each other at the top of the glass. The three of us move our glasses together, ready to toasts.
"To Amelia going and the group coming back together." Sophie announces.
We clink the champagne flutes together causing the golden liquid to swirl around, spilling into each other's drinks. After we all take a sip, our attention returns to getting ready. The guests will be arriving in just over an hour and we still need to get the final decorations together.
"How on earth do you manage to organise these parties so quickly?" I ask Sophie whilst throwing my head back to apply my mascara in the mirror.
"Well, I had a slight inkling that I'd end up hosting the election party and after I came up with the final plan, it gave me a few days to put things in place." She shrugs, applying her pearl earrings.
"I mean, she is the Queen of parties. Nothing surprises me with Sophie when it comes to parties anymore." Zara laughs as she sits on the rug, checking through her phone.
"I really don't know how you pulled today off." I say.
It's true. Never in a million years did I expect that to happen. I feel like all this time, we've been coming up with plan after plan on how to get rid of Amelia, some more complicated than others. Yet, it was as easy as gathering the school into a room and telling them the truth.
I suppose luck was on our side though, if the directors of the school board hadn't been there, I'm not sure whether we'd have had the same outcome.
"I'm not going to lie. It was last minute. Until two days ago, the group was swearing by our original plan. Part of the plan for me was getting close to Amelia again which meant that she confided in me a lot. She told me everything about how she got the information on you and that she was paying students as well as Principal Clark to be involved. She practically fuelled the fire." Sophie laughs.
