Chapter 20:

Storm George

Chapter 20:

Storm George

It has been just over a week since we stood face to face with Amelia in the cafeteria and everyday has been getting a little bit weirder.

The day after her return and the group meeting at Sophies, we all followed the plan. The whole group acted as normal and stuck together as if she'd never come back. Amelia had plans of her own, she continued to try and speak to all of us. Whether that be individually; in the hallway or parking lot, or as a group which she does everyday at lunch when she sits with us.

Whenever she sits with us most of the group ignore her, especially George and Zara. For Zara she's torn, she has such a kind heart and when Amelia asks her questions about her life she finds it hard not to show an interest back. But at the same time she hates what Amelia had done to George, and that resentment is what makes her cold.

Amelia has managed to win over some of the jocks who sit on our table at lunch, the school is also slowly warming to her again and most posts about her on the feed are positive. She's having a slow success rate with winning everybody back, people can see straight through her. She's trying desperately to create her own smaller group of friends, or a mini army as George calls it, but she's got a long way to go for people to trust her yet.

Within the group, Blake and Kieran speak to her the most, only small talk and the conversations are always started by Amelia. They only do this to keep the peace and avoid the group looking bad. Steven is cautious and keeps some distance and Sophie always sits uncomfortably around her. I've never seen her so quiet but she reassures me that she's fine. Amelia has that effect on people though.

Zac avoids her at all costs, ignoring any conversation made, ignoring her existence. I know for him, he just wants to forget she's back. He doesn't like change and I know the fear of her turning on me means that he doesn't want her to get anywhere near our relationship. However, I think Zac's coldness has meant that she's trying harder with me. Like she does to Zara she'll ask me questions at lunch, mainly about how I'm enjoying school, I just reply with short answers.

That's the way it had been for days, until Thursday last week. I was sitting in Math class with a friend I'd made called Chloe and there was a knock at the door.

"Excuse me class." Principal Clark said, holding the door open.

Amelia walked past him, scanning the room with her eyes, confidence flowing through her veins.

"Miss Sweller is in this class for this semester, make her feel welcome." He smiled yet his words acted as a warning.

Her eyes stopped when they met mine. Expecting a similar reaction to when she first saw me in the cafeteria on the first day, I was caught off guard when she waved, grinned and whispered hi, before sitting at a desk a couple rows back from me.
