The first person I showed was Alice. I knew as soon as I showed her, she would criticize the size of it, but to turn it into a planning day, that we would start in the next week. She smiled and called everyone else in.
Now I'm sitting on Jake's knee, at the side of Layla's crib, waiting for her to wake up. I have my arms resting on the top of the crib and I'm staring at my ring. Every time I look at it, butterflies creep up in my stomach and my left hand feels a hundred times heavier.
"What are you thinking about?" Jake asks resting his head on my shoulder.
"Us. Layla, the ring, what the wedding is going to be like. How may butterflies are in my stomach. That's it, that's all I'll be thinking about for a while I think," I say turning back to him. He kisses me softly and then we hear Layla wake. Her eyes flutter open slowly and she looks around taking in her surroundings.
"Hello beautiful!" I say reaching my right hand in and tickling her stomach. She laughs but pushes my hand away sleepily and rolls over. I sigh; she is the most beautiful girl I've ever seen.
"I'm hungry," I say getting off Jake's lap. He gets up,
"You stay here, in case she wakes up, I'll get you something," He nods and smiles at me.
When I'm walking down to the kitchen, I run into Sunny, "Congratulations Renesmee!" She says,
"Call me Nessie," I interject and she nods,
"Nessie. Can I see the ring?" I nod and lift my hand up for her to look at it. "It's beautiful," She sighs.
"Thanks, no credit to me, that's all Jake's," I say.
"Where is Jake? With Layla I'm guessing?"
I laugh and point to the room I just walked out of,
"We were both in there waiting for her to wake up, she has a cake to decorate,"
Sunny laughs, "Well don't let me get in your way, where ever you're going," She says stepping to the side,
"Eating something. Do you have to eat, with your power and all?" She turns back around to me,
"No but I can digest stuff if i want, but you still forget about it when it is no longer important," I chuckle.
I walk into the lounge room and Nan is sitting on the couch reading.
"Where are the others?" I ask,
"Alice took your mom and Rose shopping, Emmett and Jasper are somewhere and Carlisle is upstairs, researching about Layla, trying to figure out who she will be like, and he told me to tell you, he thinks that she will be a paler version of Leah, who gets to the age of 17 and stops growing," I nod,
"So not some crazy vampire/werewolf/human hybrid?" I say a grin appearing on my face.
"Apparently not," She says,
"Have we got anything to eat?" I ask. Nan puts her book down and walks up to the kitchen. She opens the pantry,
"We have heaps of food-" she gets cut off by Emmett and Jasper racing around the room, I laugh and they keep fighting over whatever,
"BOYS!" Nan says in an authorised tone. They stop dead in their tracks.
"Go fight outside," She mumbles something else to herself and I chuckle as they race each other outside.
"I'm going to beat you," Emmett says and Jasper laughs,
"Right of course," I hear their voices fading.
"So anyway, we have a lot of food, for a family that doesn't eat much," I laugh and walk over to stand next to her.
"Ummm....." I stare into the cupboard, I pull out the rice crackers, but she pulls them out of my hands.
"I'll make them, you go back with Jake and Layla,"
I kiss her cheek, "Thanks nan!" She rolls her eyes, and I laugh, I really can't break the habit.
I stroll back to the room and find Jake, cradling Layla in his arms. She is giggling and he is making embarrassing faces at her.
"You really do lose all self respect don't you?"
He looks up, noticing I walked in, and laughs,
"You're not much better,"
I nod, "True," Not a second later, nan walks in with our food,
"Ohh thanks!" Jake says jumping up with Layla still in his arms.
"Is Layla coming to decorate her cake?"
I nod and take her and some food out of Jake's arms.
"Let's go," I walk her into the kitchen and put her down on the bench. I shove the food in my mouth and chew the mass.
"Where's the cake?" I ask nan, who is reaching into the cupboard.
"Right here," I look at Layla and she is staring out the window.
"Layla," I say and she looks to me,
"Oh, she responds to her name!" Nan says,
"That's amazing, so she is smarter than a general 2 week old?" I nod and make an aggreement sound in the back of my throat.
I walk over and pick her up in one arm,
"She doesn't look like a 2 week old, I think 'pa and I found out, she would grow fast up until she turned 1 and then she would be 'normal', but for now she will look a couple of months older than she is," I explain holding her hand with my free hand. I bounce my hand around causing her to laugh,
"She is adorable," Nan says, taking the cling film off.
"What do you want me to get out?" I say walking into our massive pantry,
"Nothing, I made it before, she just has to decorate it." I smile and bring Layla over to where nan is.
"Oh, you can get some spoons and a knife. A blunt one," She adds. I walk over shifting Layla's weight onto my other hip, open the drawer and pull out what I need.
"Ready to ice the cake baby girl?" I say bouncing her on my hip. She laughs and holds my hair again.
"Why does she keep grabbing my hair! She's only ever done this since the start of the week," I say talking to nan.
"I don't know, don't ask me, lots of babies do it," We both chuckle.
I hand a spoon to Layla and she goes to put it in her mouth.
"no, no, no, we scoop the icing into this and put it onto this," I say pointing to the cake. She looks me straight in the eye, obviously not knowing what I'm talking about. I pull a stool over and kneel her on the stool, so I can use both hands.
"Here," I say, holding her hand in mine. I guide her hand to the bowl and help her scoop on the icing. When it comes to spread it out, I grab the butter knife and swap them in her hands. I help her spread the icing all over the cake, and she is having the best time. Nan hands me the hundreds and thousands and I open the packet,
"Let's put some of these on," I say to Layla. She pulls the pack out of my hands and tips the whole packet on, causing half of it to end up all over the bench and floor. I am laughing so hard.
"Oh my gosh Layla, you are a little trouble maker,"I say to her inbetween laughs. She looks up to me and shakes the empty bag and smiles. Nan isn't going to like cleaning this up.
