Chapter 1

Take a shower. Eat something. Go to sleep.

Finn knew he has to do all these things, maybe not necessarily in that order. The truth was, he was really exhausted after the flight and the audition he had today, but... Well.

First things first, he thought, taking off his shoes and the hoodie.

He walked quietly to their bedroom, knowing that Millie probably was taking a nap right now. She had the photoshoot today and she has always been sleepy after photoshoots. He slipped quietly under the covers beside her. And...

Maybe he shouldn't disturb her, but he hasn't seen her for two days. He couldn't stop himself from wrapping his arms around her waist and nuzzling her hair as her familiar, flowery scent hit his nostrils. He sighed, kissing her temple. Soon, he felt her stir.

Her eyes fluttered open when she felt him pressing little kisses on her neck.

'Looks like somebody missed me.' she said in a sleepy voice.

'You have no idea.' he said, leaning in to kiss her collarbone.

'Did you eat?' she asked, creasing her eyebrows.

'No.' he shook his head. His hair tickled her when he kissed her shoulder.

'I made dinner and-'

'I wanted to say "hi" first.' he cut her off.

Her look softened as she giggled.

'Hey, you.' she smiled at him warmly and lifted her hand, stroking his cheek lovingly.

'Hi, babe.' he said and leaned in, pressing his lips to hers in a soft kiss, pulling her closer to him as he put his hands on her waist. Her T-shirt pulled up at the touch and she felt his fingers on her skin. She whined into his mouth as her eyes jumped open.

'Finn, your hands are cold!' she pulled away and huffed, shuddering.

'But you're so hot.' he said playfully, kissing her jawline.

She giggled at his words. She couldn't be mad at him.

'How was your day?' she asked.

'Good.' he said, pulling away from her. He propped himself on his elbow, facing her.

'And the audition?'

'It went... well, I think.' he said and smiled bashfully.

Suddenly, she felt something, like a little pain in her chest, like something was missing in her life. It felt like a distant thought or an unfamiliar memory and it disappeared as fast as it came. She bit her lip and averted her eyes from him for a second.

She knew what it was. She missed acting. It's been almost a year since she starred in anything worth talking about. But... It wasn't the most important thing right now.

She decided to ignore these thoughts, trying to put a smile on her face instead.

Finn was more important.

'I'm sure you will get this role. This John's character is like made especially for you.'

'James.' he chuckled.

'Okay, James.' she said, rolling her eyes. 'Well, it's your fault, you've never told me the details of this story.'

'You should've read the book.'

'You haven't read it, either!'

'I'm going to read it!' he laughed. 'Well, I know some of the most important details of the plot.' he added defensively.

'So? What is it about?' she asked, laying comfortably on her pillow.

Finn took his phone out of the pocket and found the right article.

James Murray, the main character of "Wait for me", is 24 years old musician, living in New York. He is childlike and charming troublemaker, he flirts with every woman he...

'Woah, I don't like him.' Millie raised her eyebrow playfully.

'I didn't write it.' Finn lifted his hands defensively.

'Okay, continue.' she chuckled.

He has an older brother, but they actually don't talk anymore. One day James gets a call that his brother's wife died in a car accident. She was 8 months pregnant. James leaves NY and comes back to their hometown to spend time with his brother, but it seems that after all these years they barely know each other anymore. James has to quickly grow up and stop acting so carelessly because his brother is slowly becoming an alcoholic as he tries to drown his despair in the alcohol.

One old habit that James can't let go is sleeping with random girls he meets at the bar. It changes when he meets Sofia. She's a little younger than him, but she seems a lot more mature. He notices that she's different than the other girls, but he doesn't know why and it intrigues him. After some time James finds out she has some dark secrets, too.

'What secrets?' Millie asked excitedly. The last remaining trace of sleepiness left her.

'I don't know.' he laughed. 'I haven't read the book, remember?'

'Oh, no.' she groaned, burying her face into the pillow.

He laughed again and nuzzled her shoulder playfully.

'I'll tell you when I find out.' he promised.

She looked up at him and nodded with a smile.

'Umm... This story... It seems great, really.' she said, biting her lip.

'I know, right?' he smiled. He didn't want to get his hopes up, but... 'I really hope I'll get it, you know?' he continued shyly.

'I know you'll get it.' she said and leaned in, pressing her lips to his in a light kiss, assuring him that she meant every word she said.

It could be one of the best things in his life if he gets it, he thought as he kissed her back, holding her close to him. But...

What he didn't know was that it also could be one of the worst things in his life.
