I only own Cassandra.

A routine formed as time passed. Every other day, Tinkerbell would come to spend the day with Cassandra. And as the girl grew older, Tinkerbell told Blue of what she knew and if anything had changed in the girl’s beliefs.

Tinkerbell and Blue both knew that Cassandra’s destiny was approaching fast, and that she had to learn how to cope with certain things before she could find the one whose destiny was connected to hers.

“On her seventeenth birthday,” Blue said, slowly pacing the flower that she stood on. “You may tell her. Not everything, of course, but the parts she must know.”

Tinkerbell understood what she had to do. “And what if…what if she doesn’t want to embrace it?”

Blue smiled sadly. “She must. If she doesn’t understand you must teach her. She will be one of the most powerful people we will ever meet.”

“Even more than Evil Queen Regina, or Rumplestiltskin?”

“Indeed. Once she accepts what she has to do,” Blue instructed. “Take her to the town. She will be on her own then. You must return home at that point.”

Tinkerbell watched as Cassandra opened the wrapped present from her ‘parents.’ The window pane was chipped, making the fairy slightly step back in order to avoid any large splinters.

“Oh, mother! Father!” Cassandra exclaimed, holding up a combined collection of books. Tinkerbell couldn’t identify the series, but it seemed to fascinate the girl. “I love it.”

After a few minutes, the man and woman left Cassandra to her reading. Tinkerbell lightly tapped the glass. Cassandra’s head snapped up, a bright smile on her face. She ran to the window, lifting up the glass pane to allow her fairy friend to enter.

“Hello, Tink!” She greeted. Tinkerbell smiled as she turned into a human.

“Happy birthday, Cassie,” Tinkerbell held out a small white box wrapped in purple ribbon.

“You got me a present?” Cassandra gently took the box and sat on the carpet.

“It’s a very special present,” Tinkerbell explained. She was mentally preparing for the talk with Cassandra.

Once the girl removed the ribbon and lifted the lid, her eyes widened in surprise. Her fingers lifted out a locket in the shape of a circle with a green crystal in the center. Three metal leaves lay beside of the locket, connected by the metal chain. Cassandra was speechless.

“Well?” Tinkerbell asked.

“It-it’s…beautiful,” Cassandra whispered, as if her voice would shatter the necklace. Her eyes lifted from the present to meet her friend’s. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome,” Tinkerbell replied, smiling. She sat beside of the girl. “But we need to talk about something.”

Cassandra stopped fiddling with the necklace as she recognized the serious tone in Tinkerbell’s voice. “Is something wrong?”

“You have to hear me out, alright?”

“Tink…what’s going on?” Cassandra’s eyes widened in fear.

“Cassandra, there is a prophecy. I’ve known about it for quite a while,” Tink began. Cassandra remained quiet as the fairy spoke. “And this is what is says: The lady born of flora and fauna shall travel across realms to protect the truest believer from the youth holder. She is connected to the youth holder by marking, one that represents her homeland. Upon her coming of age, she shall be granted her abilities once more. Her destiny shall then grant the lady her true title.”

Cassandra was silent for a moment, before asking, “Why are you telling me this?”

“You aren’t from this realm,” Tink began. “You are from another land entirely. The people who you know as your parents found you on their doorstep one night when you were a baby. I found you many years ago, but didn’t have any communication with you until you were old enough. And now, it’s time you knew who you really are.”

“Who am I?” Cassandra whispered, almost afraid of the answer.

“You are one of the most powerful beings in all of the realms. I only know what the prophecy states. Who you are is up to you to figure out. That locket will help.” Tinkerbell gestured to the necklace.

Cassandra immediately gripped the necklace, trying to open the locket. It wouldn’t budge. “It’s not opening!”

Tinkerbell sighed. “Maybe it will open soon, after you-“

She was cut off by the sight of the green crystal glowing. Cassandra dropped the locket, scrambling backwards. The locket hovered in mid-air. Neither Tinkerbell nor Cassandra knew what to do. What was even more astounding was that a feminine voice came from the crystal.

“Cassandra, arise.”

The girl exchanged a look with Tinkerbell before standing up slowly. The locket turned to face her.

“You have an incredible destiny. The fairy you have befriended only speaks the truth, you must listen. This locket shall protect you from any dark magic, and it shall also help to harness the pure energy that runs throughout your veins. It will help you control your abilities.”

“Abilities? What abilities?” Cassandra questioned.

“In time, my dear. Your destiny lies elsewhere. And remember, do not allow your heart to confuse your instincts.”

There wasn’t any time for anyone to react, as the locket wrapped itself around Cassandra’s neck. A great light burst from the locket. Tinkerbell had to look away, but upon her glance at the girl, she noticed the tattoo on Cassandra’s right shoulder was glowing a light green through the shirt, and her eyes had begun to glow the same color. Her brown hair was billowing in a nonexistent wind, as were her clothes.

As quickly as it had begun, the crystal dimmed and Cassandra stopped glowing. She fell to the floor on her knees, breathing heavily. “Tink…what happened?”

Tinkerbell was by her side in a matter of seconds, rubbing her back in encouragement. “I haven’t a clue. But I suppose that the prophecy is locked now.”

“What does that mean?”

“It means we have work to do.”
