I only own Cassandra.
Tinkerbell stopped mid-step as they got closer to the top of Skull Rock. Cassandra paused as well. “Tink? You alright?”
“I want to talk to Pan. Alone. In the meantime, find Henry. Try and get him out of here.” The fairy didn’t turn around to face her friend.
“What about you?”
“I have to protect you. And this may be the only way to make sure you get out of here.” Cassie hesitated.
“You…you are going to face Pan by yourself, aren’t you?” Cassandra asked. She stepped forward to get closer to the fairy. She turned around and sighed.
“Yes. I have made many mistakes in my life, and now I have a chance to fix it. And now I can save you!” Tinkerbell had tears in her eyes. Cassandra shook her head in protest.
“You said that you would always be by my side. And now you are leaving me behind? I won’t let you do this.”
“Cassie, don’t argue with me. I refuse to let you battle Pan. He’s too powerful. He’s too dangerous. Henry is the priority right now. Focus on saving him. And remember, everything I did is to protect you. I’m grateful to have you as my best friend.”
The girl was silent, before hugging the fairy tightly. She couldn’t bring herself to say anything. The fairy gave her a smile before continuing the walk up the rock stairs. Cassandra felt a pulling sensation to a small rock cave leading elsewhere. She began to walk through it.
Her shoes clicked against the rock, and she did her best to keep quiet. The cave wasn’t large, but just big enough to give Cassandra room to stand comfortably. It only took a few moments before she reached the end. There were several large rocks in a random pattern standing in front of her, blocking her view. But she paused as she saw a boy sitting against one of the rocks.
“Henry?” She whispered. The boy looked up. He looked surprised and then confused.
“Cassie? What are you doing here?”
“I came to save you.” Cassandra knelt down next to him.
“What are you talking about? Save me? I’m going to save magic!” He adjusted his position to look at her.
“No, Pan lied to you. He isn’t saving magic. He is going to kill you so he can become all powerful,” Cassandra explained. Her locket clanged against the rock as she sat on her legs. Henry shook his head.
“How do you know this?”
“I’m not sure,” Cassandra replied after a moment of silence. “All I know is that Tinkerbell told me to get you out. And I am.”
“What about her?” Henry asked. He stood up as the girl did. “You once told me that you wouldn’t let people do anything for you that would cost them. What happened to that?”
The girl froze. “I don’t know. But you’re right. I’ll help Tinkerbell fight Pan. Go through that cave and down the stairs. Find Emma and the others and get out of Neverland as soon as possible.”
Henry moved to enter the cave but stopped to turn around. “Cassie?”
“I love you Henry. But you can’t come back for me. Promise me!”
The boy’s eyes widened. “Don’t make me-“
“Promise me!” Cassie demanded. She was wasting time. Tinkerbell would be finding Pan at any moment.
“I-I promise.” Henry ran to hug her and then she kissed the top of his head.
“Go.”
And he ran. Cassandra turned to maneuver her way through the rocks. She was listening for voices, specifically Pan’s or Tinkerbell’s. And eventually she heard them.
