"Victor... Wake up!" Cara's soft voice sounded a little panicked as it hit Victors ears.
"Whats up?" He grumbled, his throat dry and his voice sounding more harsh than usual.
"I can't find Smudge! I need to go for work and she isn't here. Could you find her?" She hurried back off of the bed to grab her gun.
"Mission for today, find that cat. Consider it done boss." He grinned, his eyes remaining closed.
"Thankyou! I'll see you after work."
Cara paused for a moment, taking in his calm form. The way that grin never left his face while even his eyes were closed, the morning glow bringing an almost golden look to his usually pale complexion. Even the scars on his chest, the two that stood out being the ones she had sewed up for him, the two she now knows he could have done himself. The two that brought them together.
She smiled before climbing back onto the bed and placing a gentle kiss on his lips, his eyes opened for the first time that morning, taking in all of the beauty of the ocean in hers. He pulled her down into a real kiss before allowing her to get up, he knew as well as she did how often just one kiss had escalated between them.
"See you after work." He spoke as she grabbed her badge and turned towards the door.
"You too." She said before leaving the apartment.
Victor got up a few minutes later, he had his mission and he was not about to let her down. He searched the apartment thoroughly finding no trace of the little feline she was now fond of. Only then had he noticed the bedroom window he came through last night had not been closed.
"To the roof!" Victor called to himself pulling on his pants and climbing out of the window as though it was a normal daily feat.
Cara smiled as she entered the GCPD, she was happy to see that both Gordan and Bullock had returned. Her steps where light as she approached Bullock, Jim was so caught up in his papers that he too had not noticed her arrival.
"Black coffee, shot of whiskey and two sugars. You can thank me later!" She grinned watching as the older man flew into the air in a fit of suprise.
"Thanks kid, but I still dont work here.. I just came to get the rest of my stuff." Harvey sighed, Jim only now looked up with defeat etched onto his face.
"I got you a regular coffee, didn't think you would aprove of the alcohol in his." She smiled lightly as Jim thanked her.
"You know, if you came back I would get you a coffee every morning.." Cara raised her eyebrows at Harvey as he stood up, he was holding a couple of things Cara didn't believe he would actually care enough about to collect. She knew he missed being here and that is why he came, so why wouldn't he come back?
"You're wasting your time trying." Jim spoke up looking at Harvey who nodded his head towards the man as though it was a final goodbye, he turned and left the moment his head raised up.
"Why doesn't he admit he misses it here?" She sighed as Jim looked her in her eyes.
"Because he is god damn stubborn. He has a fiancé now and has a job with less drama. Suppose he believes he is happy." Jim commented back in an almost sad tone, that is of course if Jim was capable of showing emotion.
"So these 'Maniax'.. are we any closer to finding them?" She asked hoping to change subject.
"No, there are six of them missing. All violent, all dangerous." Jim rubbed the palms of his hands against his eyes, letting out an exsasperated sigh.
"I suppose we ought to hurry up and find them." She grinned sitting at Harveys desk and pulling out files.
She had been looking for former friends, relatives ect. of the escaped inmates for roughly an hour before Jim cautiously stood and said he would be back in a moment.
She heard a shot behind her and a deranged laugh, it took a second for her to get into cover as she watched fellow officers fall. Behind her Captin Essen stepped out of her office, taking in the scene before her as Jerome Valeska began his playful taunts.
The group of escapee's making quick work of rounding up the officers most important including herself and Essen infront of the main office.
Essen was tied to a chair as the group began to film, rather Jerome began to take his position in the spotlight.
"Hell of a first week you're having, commissioner! I wish I could tell you that things were gonna get better for you. They're not." The red headed man jumped around in pure glee.
"Why are you doing this?" Essen asked probably trying to buy time.
"To rule the world. Blah, blah, blah. But we'll settle for some dead cops and good PR. Kidding." Jerome giggled which only aggravated the woman infront of him.
"Yeah. Whatever. I get it. You're just crazy." She spat back.
"Crazy? Look at me, you can see I'm not crazy.." Jerome feigned a pained look before grinning again.
"Very soon, little man. You will be dead and the world will go on without you. You'll be nothing! No one will even remember your name." Essen too now grinned, she had clearly hoped this would have offened the man. Clearly she was wrong.
"Mm, No. See that is where you're wrong, old lady. We will leave a mark on this city. We will spread across it like a virus, do you know why?" He got right into her face with a smug look.
"There is nothing more contagious than laughter!" The man behind Jerome holding a camera spoke up with a sinister smirk, not that Jerome cared for it.
Jerome pulled out his pistol and shot the man dead before a short giggle left his lips.
"My line. There is nothing more contagious than laughter!" He threw his arms up and let out a deep, actually almost contagious laugh.
Cara held back a smirk, she couldn't understand why she enjoyed his showmanship so much. She knew he could kill them all in a moments notice and yet the twisted side of her brain begged her to let out the laugh she was holding.
Essen spat in his face causing him to get a look of shock before recovering.
"That was strangely pleasant. Do it again." He teased as he leaned back down to get in her face. She threw her head forward, connecting thier heads with a thud. "Oh!" Jerome shouted and stumbled back, still smirking however.
"Thats going to leave a mark." She spat at the man again.
"You got me!" He laughed loudly before his face turned serious. "My turn." His voice was growing ever more sinister.
He pulled out his gun and shot the captin, Cara knew it would be a fatal wound but she could not help right now. The man laughed again, once again Cara had to fight the urge to laugh along with him. Jerome passed her before stopping and leaning down to whisper in her ear.
"You are enjoying this... I think I will let you live, you seem fun.." He giggled again while standing back straight and walking over to the camera his man dropped when he was killed.
"Hello Gotham city! We are the Maniax! And I'm Jerome... the shot caller of our little gang. We're here to spread the message of wisdom and hope." Jerome grinned into the camera with his voice still traveling around the department.
The only sound was that of an officer Cara did not know personally, whimpering. Jerome lifted his pistol again and shot the officer, before rolling his eyes and continuing.
"Some people have no manners.. You're all prisoners. What you call sanity, it's just a prison in your minds that stops you from seeing that you're all just tiny little cogs in a giant absurd machine..." His tone turned malicious and dark as he raised his voice. "Wake up! Why be a cog? Be free like us!" He laughed again.
His uncontrollable laughter came to a halt as he heard the noise coming from outside, they were running out of time.
"Just remember, smile! Oh! Time to go, but don't worry, we'll be back very soon. Hang on to your hats folks! 'Cause you haven't seen nothing yet!" Jerome laughed hysterically before running off.
