Victor awoke early, his plan for the day already set in his mind. If the boss wanted Galavan dead, he would gladly oblige. After all the man also had his beloved abducted. He found a strange happiness in knowing that Oswald was alive, though he was no Falcone; he had been good to Victor.
As usual Smudge came running into the room the moment she heard that he had woken up. She was no longer the tiny kitten she had been, now nearing a year old her colours had dulled a little. Her fur no longer as fluffy as it had been and her stomach more flat.
"Do you want breakfast?" Victor cooed at the cat as she purred, rubbing against his leg.
"Yeah, sounds great."
For a moment Victor stared at the fluff ball as though he was crazy, only when Cara giggled from beside him had he understood what was happening.
"I'll go start that, be dressed in ten minutes." Victor smiled and although he never turned to see her, he knew Cara was rolling her eyes.
He had fed Smudge, made pancakes and had even brewed a fresh pot of coffee by the time Cara came sauntering out of the bedroom. She yawned and stretched her arms as she walked, Victor stiffled a laugh as she drooled a little.
"Hmmm, food." Cara grinned while sniffing the air, she took a pancake from the stack and took a large bite.
"Well grab a couple, we will be late." Victor commanded while pouring some coffee into her favourite travel mug. Not waiting any longer he wandered towards the door, uncliping the key from the hook and opening the door.
Cara followed quickly behind him, not sure on why they were leaving together. He was usually very careful.
"I have a cab waiting out back. Don't worry he is sworn to secrecy." Victor smiled the moment he saw Cara's look of doubt.
They made it in one piece to Edwards apartment complex; though the driver had not said a word nor looked her way, Cara still found herself attempting to hide her face.
"Ed, sorry we didn't have time to warn you of our arrival." Cara spoke as her friend smiled widely.
"Not to worry, come in. Can I offer you a drink?" Ed grinned as he showed the wide array of beverages within the fridge.
"No, thank you." Cara declined politely before looking around the apartment, though it was spacious enough; she was not suprised to see a lot of clutter, all work related.
"Oswald, we have guests." Ed called over to where a figure lay still under the blanket on his bed.
"Great. Please keep the noise down." The familiar nasally voice responded with a huff.
"Oswald, get up. We came to see you, I have to say I am glad you are alive." Cara walked closer to the bed side, watching as he pulled the blanket back enough to see her.
"Miss. Dellany, I am sorry I had not expected it to be you." Oswald apologised before smiling slightly, the pain in his eyes clear.
"It's fine, how are you?" She asked now with caution, his mental health was obviously not at its best and though she could not blame him, Cara did not want to trigger him either.
"Horrible. Just horrible. I could have done it, I should have! He killed my mother and I let him get away with it. I shouldn't be alive." Oswald's pointed face screwed up as tears threatened to fall.
"Come on boss, we'll get him. Say the word and I'll have him six foot under by noon." Victor chirped with a grin, the small man before him did not acknowlage his words however.
"I'm stupid and weak, I should just give up." Oswald continued on his rant of self woe.
"Oswald, do you believe your mother would have wanted you to give up? She told me when we met that you were a fine man and one who would succeed in life." Cara tried though the mention of his mother only caused his face to screw up even more.
"No! If it wasn't for me she would be alive! This is my fault because I believed I could be someone in this city. I am no one! A pathetic little penguin." His temper flared as he bolted up right and stood off of the bed, waving a finger in Cara's face. "You know nothing about this! Nothing!" He yelled now but Cara too was losing her cool.
"My mother killed herself! She killed my father to save me, so yes Oswald. I know more than you think so don't for a second believe you are the only person who has lost someone to this fucking city!" Cara slammed her hand onto his shoulder, forcing him to sit back down.
Victor watched on with a grin, he knew now that Cara was angry she would be brutally honest and to him it was the best thing to witness.
"Now pull your self together! You are the self proclaimed King of Gotham. You rule the under world, You came from being just an umbrella boy and forced your way to the top. If anyone can take down Galavan and make him suffer it is you! Off the record where I'm not a cop, I want you to succeed and I will not try to stop you from avenging your mother. Just cut it out with the pity party!" Cara growled at the small man sat beside her, though he just cried and wailed.
"Just leave! I don't even know why you came!" He screeched in a deafening yell, Cara shook her head and stood. Taking Victors arm, she apologised to Ed who stood completely still.
"Call me if you change your mind, boss." Victor nodded now before the two left, he listened to Cara's rant and couldn't help the smile he was wearing.
