"Dellany!" The sharp tone of the voice made her skin crawl. What now? Alvarez had been non stop all day, the moment she stepped out of the filing room he was there to give her more tasks.

Now Cara understood why nobody liked to work with him. She shuddered at the thought of more paperwork or trips around he department.

"Yes. Alvarez?" She had not hidden the annoyance and general anger in her tone as she glared up at the tanned man.

"That childrens hospital charity event is tonight. Gordan and Bullock are busy, I don't want to go and we need an 'honorable officer' to attend. So pack up your shit, go home and at least try to look nice." He ground out every word, the sarcasm almost dripping from his tone.

"Fuck you." She spat while standing and giving him the finger. She grabbed her jacket and stomped her way home.

She owned maybe two dresses and only one would do for an event like this, high society men and women would be attending so she would be expected to look the part. Much to her irritation it was a rather clingy dress but it was one her mother had bought for her 18th birthday. She knew not how long her mother had saved to buy it, it was beatiful but Cara had never worn it.

She turned on the shower and jumped in, applying plenty of conditioner in the hopes that it would smooth out the frizz her hair usually developed.

Once out with her towel wrapped around herself she searched the bedroom for her hair dryer and curling wand, plus her makeup and perfume. All things she so rarely used.
She dried her hair and pinned it back, adding light makeup to her face. She only had winged eyeliner and red lipstick that stood out on her pale complexion.

Her hair was finally addressed and loosely curled, pinning it back into a sleek updo with elegant curls falling freely.

Next was getting into the dress. She had to admit, even to herself, that tight fitted clothes were not her thing but looking the way she did right now, her confidence in the dress was sky high.

She smiled at her apearance in the mirror and decided she would show that arsehole Alvarez she was capable of looking nice.

Her cab pulled up outside the department while she quickly ran inside to grab the straps for her knives that attached to her thigh. She knew in this city and with the 'Maniax' on the lose she was better off safer than sorry.

Cara grinned widely as she caught the eye of several cops, one even whistled before she reached her desk. Alvarez looked up from the paperwork he was skimming over, his face dropped as he watched her open the draw and take out the straps along with knives and badge.

"Wow... Erm... You scrub up well." He commented with an almost dry throat.

"Yep." She smiled popping the 'p'.

"Good luck Cara. Make us look good!" Harvey called with a goofey grin as she looked up to see him and Jim smiling.

"Thanks."

She perched on the edge of her desk and lifted the dress enough on one side to attach her straps, sliding in the knife and hooking the badge before letting it fall back down.

She ran back outside and got back into the cab, telling the driver where to go. Finally making it to the charity event she climbed out, leaving a large tip for the drivers patience.

Cara walked in slowly and took in the sight of the beautiful hall, people stood everywhere dressed to the nines. All holding some form of drink and chatting quietly.

"Lee! Oh thank god, I thought I'd be stuck here alone." She voiced as she approached the dark haired woman who just smiled at her sudden apearance.

"You look amazing Cara, how have you been? I haven't seen much of you." Lee asked with that air of authority she seemed to give off.

"Great thankyou. I have been so busy, Alvarez has had a real stick up his arse recently." Cara shook her head in distaste before she smiled again. "How has work been for you?"

"Not so bad, Edward is always coming in and out so I suppose it's not like I am always alone." Her eyes drifted behind Cara's shoulder for a moment before she turned around to allow Lee too see properly.

"Excuse me, I'm Lee Thompkins. I work with James Gordan, he has mentioned you a few times. I saw you and thought.." She began to the young man who stood before them. Cara knew who he was before even needing to ask.

"Of course, it's very nice to meet you." The young man smiled while shaking her hand.

"Nice to meet you too."

The older gentleman next to him cleared his throat slightly, Bruce looked up towards him and smiled again.

"This is my guardian, Alfred Pennyworth." He introduced the man who took Lee's hand and gently shook it too.

"It's an absolute pleasure." His accent was very prominant, Cara was staring at the man before he met her gaze.

"Cara Dellany." She smiled also shaking his hand.

She noticed Bruce had turned his attention else where while Alfred and Lee continued their convosation.

"Can I get you a drink?" He offered Lee absentmindedly, not that she noticed as she accepted gratefully and asked for water.

Cara watched as the young boy wandered off into the crowds of people, she followed towards the bar. Careful not to seem strange for following a boy billionare, she just had a suspicion he was up to something.

"Selina. I didn't expect to see you here." Bruce approached a young girl she recognised as 'Cat'.

She left the eavesdropping realising he had just seen a friend and ordered a drink.

The young man walked back past her with a bit of an annoyed glare ahead of him as he made his way back to Alfred.

Cara took her place in a corner where she could see the stage after another five minutes of waiting around and smiled as Lee got on stage.

The lights dimmed and a spot light hit her.

"Good evening, I am Doctor Lee Thompkins. For the last five years, I have had the honor of being part of the Childrens Hospital. Thankyou for your support and thankyou so much for coming out tonight. Over the years we've had magicians come and entertain our children. And so tonight, we have one of the magicians here for you... Without further ado, please allow me to present to you the Great Rodolfo!"

Lee finished up as an almost sinister looking man apeared on the stage with a laugh she knew all too well.

Jerome.
