Storm

Lighting illuminates the night sky
Rain drops form ripples in puddles
   Thunder pierced the calming atmosphere
Everyone is asleep at this late hour
           Everyone but me
My sleep is hindered by the noise
The commotion causes my heart to race
               I lay paralyzed
Waiting for the storm to end
As my head lays against the pillow
         My body tosses and turns
               Unable to comfortably position itself
          I'm curled into a ball
                     My hands cover my ears
             To purge the awful noise
                              From the outside world
